I went on the Home Advisor's website to find a reputable company to both inspect and sweep my chimney flues I contacted a few after checking their reviews on Home Advisor's and checking the Revdex.com siteI went with Certified Chimney Inspections who in writing stated that for $they would inspect and sweep both the furnace and fireplace flues When they got to my house they set up a ladder to the roofI brought them to the basement where they removed the stack pipe from the furnace to the furnace flueThey shined a light from their phone or handheld device resembling a phone and showed me a faded whitish/grey line and told me it was a crack in the liner One of them went up to the roof then came back and showed me pictures of what was suppose to be my furnace flue The tech pointed to a couple spots on the pictures and told me they could not sweep (clean) the furnace flue because it was crumbling, on the verge of collapse, fragile, not safe Their solution to make the furnace flue safe was to install a steel liner for around $but with a senior discount it would only cost around $ Offer was good for one week only They also reduced the price to $as they only serviced one flue They also showed me a sample and brochure of the liner they recommended installing After consulting with two furnace companies I was informed that if they had installed the steel liner as written up in their proposal it would have significantly cut the draft going to the furnace and would have void the warranty on my furnace

I went on the Home Advisor's website to find a reputable company to both inspect and sweep my chimney flues. I contacted a few after checking their reviews on Home Advisor's and checking the Revdex.com site. I went with Certified Chimney Inspections who in writing stated that for $139.95 they would inspect and sweep both the furnace and fireplace flues. When they got to my house they set up a ladder to the roof. I brought them to the basement where they removed the stack pipe from the furnace to the furnace flue. They shined a light from their phone or handheld device resembling a phone and showed me a faded whitish/grey line and told me it was a crack in the liner. One of them went up to the roof then came back and showed me pictures of what was suppose to be my furnace flue. The tech pointed to a couple spots on the pictures and told me they could not sweep (clean) the furnace flue because it was crumbling, on the verge of collapse, fragile, not safe. Their solution to make the furnace flue safe was to install a steel liner for around $2000.00 but with a senior discount it would only cost around $1800.00. Offer was good for one week only. They also reduced the price to $79.95 as they only serviced one flue. They also showed me a sample and brochure of the liner they recommended installing. After consulting with two furnace companies I was informed that if they had installed the steel liner as written up in their proposal it would have significantly cut the draft going to the furnace and would have void the warranty on my furnace.

After reading Sandra's review and based on my own experience, it sounds pretty scripted to me. They came into my home went right to the basement looked into the furnace connection and then it was word for word what Sandra was told. I was given a written estimate for $2,000 to put in a steel liner.

I got a second opinion and did nothing.
