Review: I took my tax to [redacted] who has been doing my taxes for about 7 years. [redacted] had sold his business to the now [redacted] and is working for the [redacted] only @ tax time where he comes back into the country. Normally when he prepares my taxes, he takes the money out of my return. I took my taxes to [redacted] around the [redacted] of February. He then called me a week after to let my know of my taxes. He told me that I would have to pay this year (which was the first time for me). I then told him that I did not have the money. He only gave me an estimate but did not submit my taxes. [redacted] normally charges me $165, but said that because I now live in Jersey, and he has to do NJ and NY he will charge me $185. I told him that I could not pay that right now, and he told me that I have until the end of April to file my taxes. I told him I would file with him then. I called him back on [redacted] to let him know that I was coming to pick up my original documents on the [redacted] and I will get back to him. He then told me that I cannot do that, and that he has to call me back. He said he did the work and that I cannot get my documents back until I pay him his fee. I told him that he did not submit anything for me and that when I come back in April I will pay him when I save the money. He said that I should pay him something to get my W2's back. I told him that I need my papers and how much he wants. He told me that I can pay him something. I told him that that is not how business is done. If you have a standard fee for work filed and not done that you should make that known, but I was never told that. It's now the [redacted] of February and [redacted] has not called me to give me back my papers. After holding my papers ransom, I do not want to do my taxes there again. He refuses to give me back my W2s. Can you help me?Desired Settlement: I want my original documents back. My three W2s. And I want an apology from Brooklyn tax. I am petrified to go to his office at the moment.

My name is [redacted]; I am responding to the above referenced complaint ID # [redacted].

The client had dropped off her 2013 tax information document to prepare the 2013 tax returns.

Upon completion of the tax return, [redacted] contacted the client to relay the completed tax return and our fee.

I was told the client was unhappy about the outcome of the completed tax returns and wanted her information back.

[redacted] explained to her that the completed tax returns was based upon her information, and that we do not control the amount of tax refund to be received or tax liability due, if any.

We requested that a minimal fee be paid for the services provided, when she comes in to pick up her original documents. It took a significant amount of time and effort in preparing the tax return.

Within a week of thereafter, I told [redacted] that she may pick up her information without any charge. About 3 weeks ago, the tax information was returned to the client, without charge.
