Chafin Performance Horses Reviews (6)

I purchased a 2yr old gelding from Jim sight unseen in March of 2020. Because of the great distance between where I live and Jim's facility, I was sent pictures and video's of the horse before I purchased him. Jim and I met at a halfway point so I could pick up the horse from him. We actually did the trade at a truck stop of all places. The horse was quite, well mannered and was exactly as Jim described him. We loaded him up onto my trailer and we made another 3.5 hour ride home to our barn, it all went perfectly. All of the geldings paperwork was in order and was nicely in a file that was presented to me at the time of transfer. I have had no prior dealing or knowledge of Jim to this deal, I found him to be a straight shooter and a stand up guy. There were no signs that my horse was drugged as I've read in other reviews. I have had the horse back in my barn now for almost a week now and its still the quite, nice, well mannered horse I picked up from him a week ago. I've had the farrier out to look at him, my vet has been out to look at him, they all say he is a great horse!

I apologize, I meant to say he is quiet and is still quiet, not quite. I could not find a way to edit this after the fact, so my apologies for not catching this typo before I hit the send button and posted this review. Michaelx64

Jim Chafin is extremely dishonest. Do not do business with him. He drugs his horses, and is very deceitful about temperament, training level, etc. I am not even sure how he still has his training card with the AQHA. Be careful! Very dangerous individual! Do not trust your animals in his care, or purchase anything from him.

daughter was a very good rider and has been riding since a very young age as it also stated in her complaint to the Revdex.com. With us being 1,054 miles away from [redacted] and her daughter, [redacted] had seen a very descriptive video and still pictures of the said gelding before purchase. Chafin Performance Horses is unable to make a professional evaluation of the daughter's riding ability which in turn should be [redacted]'s responsibility to do her due diligence to make sure the horse is a correct fit for her daughter. Prior to the sale of this horse, he had been ridden and shown by a very novice select rider who had been very successful with him. At her 60+ years of age she was able to ride and maintain him at home without a professionals intervention. From our experience with the horse and knowing he was safe enough for an older individual without much experience, it was in our opinion that he would take care of [redacted]'s daughter in the same fashion.Jim had been in several communications with [redacted] via text message where [redacted] had relayed to Jim that her Daughter, the Coach and [redacted] had rode the horse and had been getting along great with him.Riding horses takes on the inherent risk for problems, with that being said we have no idea how the horse was ridden, handled or in what manner the horse has been taken care of  with the animal being out of our care. And we can not take on responsibility for an animal that is not in our program. In conclusion once the horse leaves our care we have no basis on how the animal was cared for from over 1,000 miles away, and can not be held accountable.Thank you for your time.Regards,Jim Chafin Performance Horses

Review: Jim C[redacted] sold me a horse that he said was a level 1 temperament horse that would need a level one novice rider. Before I purchased the horse I was very clear that it was for my 12 year old daughter, who has riden horses since she was very young. He reassured me this horse was going to be well suited for her. We have had this horse 6 days. He reared back and threw my 12 year old daughter off. The next day he did the same thing to me. When I called Jim he said he would call me back and resolve the situation. He has chosen not to call or respond in any way.Desired Settlement: I would like Jim to refund me the $2000 I purchased the horse for. In exchange he can reclaim ownership of his evil horse.
