Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/09/16) */
Thank you for forwarding [redacted] complaint. As [redacted] said in his complaint, when he contacted us, he asked for quote to convert 30 video tapes to DVD and he was quoted a price. But [redacted] changed his mind and only decided to send 5 video tapes to...

us. [redacted] never called us back to ask for a new price quote on only transferring 5 tapes rather than 30 tapes he was quoted. Had he called we would have quoted him the new price, which if he did not like it, he would not have sent just 5 tapes to us. It is [redacted]'s fault for changing his mind and only sending 5 not 30 and not calling to received the new quote. As far as shipping, we gave [redacted] the option of having him ship it himself or paying for the convenience of using our [redacted] account and us sending him a label. He was informed he was always responsible for the shipping fees to us & return shipment fees to him. Again, [redacted] chose not to ship it himself with a carrier of his choosing, instead he chose to use our fed ex account & be invoiced for the shipping and handling fees. We have also told [redacted] just to provide his own return shipping prepaid label & he can save the return [redacted] cost. He will then owe only for the shipping to us and provide his own return shipping with any carrier of his choosing, [redacted] refuses. Our position is: all of [redacted]'s complaints are caused by himself 1). not calling us back to receive a new quote for only 5 tapes instead of 30 tapes to transfer 2). [redacted] not providing his own shipping & agreeing to pay us to provide a [redacted] shipping label & using our account number.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/09/25) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When I talked to [redacted] initially he quoted a price of around $10.00 a tape. When he received the first five tapes he called and asked where the other 25 tapes were. I [redacted]ed my grandparents concern about sending all the tapes out at once in case package was damaged or videos were of poor quality. At that time he quoted a new price of either $49.95 per tape for the five tapes, or $19.95 per tape if we sent all 30. The new quote for 30 tapes was still almost double what was quoted when I agreed to send the tapes in. When I asked [redacted] about this over the phone, he stated "you must have talked to someone else, because Polaroid tapes take additional processing." I think it is convenient that he remembers how many tapes we had, but does not remember the price he quoted. I am also sure that I told him what types of tapes they were, because I wanted to make sure that they would be able to transfer this type of tape. I decided just to have the tapes shipped back because of the large difference in price. I then received an invoice for shipping and handling fees of $45.00. When I called to complain about the shipping cost, [redacted] stated he "didn't have to deal with this" and refused to send the tapes back unless I provided a shipping label. His response to the high shipping cost was that he used [redacted] two day. This is untrue as I still have a copy of the shipping label he provided and it was shipped [redacted] ground. Two day shipping is also impractical because estimated shipping time via [redacted] ground between Springfield IL and Downers Grove IL is only one day. I was also skeptical about having to pay the invoice I already received and having to pay for return shipping out of pocket. I thought he may still try to send me to collections for entire balance. Instead, I raised a complaint here with the Revdex.com. [redacted] called after the complaint was filed and stated he would not send the tapes back until this complaint was closed "to his satisfaction". He also stated he would not send the tapes back even if I provided my own shipping label. I Have since paid the invoice, mailing a postal money order on September 15. His office received this money order on September 17. This money order has still not been cashed. He has not yet shipped the tapes back to me. He is leveraging my family's heirlooms to force me to drop a valid complaint against his business. This, in my opinion, is borderline criminal. Although I disagree with the amount he has charged for shipping, and also with the misinformation given to me before I shipped the tapes, I have still paid the amount charged and demand my grandparents property be returned.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2015/10/05) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have already sent a money order for $45.00. This is the balance in full. Cash the money order and ship back the tapes. I want this matter resolved. If you refuse to cash the money order, then return it to me and I will provide a return shipping label and pay the $22.50.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 17, 2015/10/09) */
Hi [redacted], Thanks for contacting us regarding this matter. As you will see from our very first response to [redacted]'s original complaint, we have stated all [redacted] had to do was pay the one $22.50 fee we had incurred & provide his own return shipping label. We are not sure why [redacted] has kept prolonging the situation or even filed a complaint with the Revdex.com when he never actually hired us to do any work for him & all we required was to just cover the one shipping fee. Well, we are happy [redacted] now agrees to do that & we will await his new check & own return shipping label. We will include his first check in with his tapes we send back to him with his return shipping label. If he wants his first check back before he sends us his second check, he can provide his own return shipping for that as well. Sorry you had to get involved in such a silly, simple matter. All we have ever wanted was to just ship [redacted]'s tapes back to him since he never hired us to do any work for him. As he said he knew from the beginning he was always responsible to cover the shipping. But for some reason, instead he decided to keep filing Revdex.com complaints & angry responses to us just asking to have him provide his own shipping costs. We are glad it is almost over & hope you have a nice day. Thanks.
