Review: This complaint is in regard to hidden and excessive charges amounting to $177.00. By the member associations this company belongs, they violated their code of ethics by not disclosing all charges. Chandler & Halasz, Inc., provided testimony transcripts from a 3 day civil trial that I was required to provide to law enforcement officials. Payment (via Credit Card) was required upon ordering the transcripts or they would not proceed. As the total charge was over $2,400, I asked about ways to reduce the total amount. The electronic copy charge was described to me as a $39.00 charge, but it was not disclosed this was being charged on a daily basis, but as a single charge. All I was told was the costs involved were the $3.85 per transcript page, the charge for sending an electronic copy, and a USPS delivery charge. I did ask that the transcripts be sent ASAP and was agreeable separate delivery charges due to this. After placing the order, I received an order confirmation describing the subject matter as one order. No additional order detail was provided. (stating On Friday, April 10, 2015, I ran your credit card for the testimony only to be transcribed in the matter of [redacted] Note the description describes a single charge.) Subsequently after receiving the transcripts, I received a detailed billing statement showing 3 invoices, one for each day of the trial. Each contained a $50.00 research fee and a $13.50 electronic copy charge. Again the PER DAY electronic copy charge was not previously disclosed. Upon receipt of the billing statement, I contacted the firm to inquire about the $50 Research fee. I was then informed this was a standard charge. Subsequently I was sent their Rate Sheet as further explanation. Upon review of the rate sheet, this "Research Fee" was located under the company's "ADDITIONAL SERVICES. By billing this single order as 3 separate orders/invoices they charged undisclosed fees and electronic copy fee excessively, a total of $177.00.Desired Settlement: Refund of $177.50 that includes the 1) the $150 undisclosed "Research Fee" and 2) the $27.00 ($13.50 times 2) "Electronic Copy" charge that was excessively charged (I agree to paying 1 electronic copy charge.)
