Chapel Hill Dermatology, PA

Medical practice waived one of my bills, they then went back and retroactively billed me and sent the bill to collections. I was referred to this practice my sister for a medical issue with my skin because she thought the PA there was very good. Unfortunately, I did not experience the same success that she had. I traveled from Charlotte, NC to Chapel Hill, NC on 4 occasions to be seen at Chapel Hill Dermatology for the same unresolved medical issue and had to pay for each visit as a new visit rather than any of them be considered a follow up. At each visit I paid $72 up front prior to being seen because I do not have insurance. Since I had traveled from such a distance so many times, on one visit the doctor waived my $72 payment. Apparently the doctor failed to document this because months later, the practice decided to bill me for it anyways. I explained to them that on that particular occasion, the doctor waived the bill and I am adamant that the circumstances support my version of the events. I paid my bill UP FRONT before even being seen all other times...so why on this occasion would they not have billed me up front if that is what they intended to do? When I asked that question they made up excuses like "maybe our credit card system was down that day". That's absurd. I pay with a check card and bank at a bank that shares a parking lot with them ([redacted]), if that had been so I would have walked the couple of paces to the ATM and returned with cash. I was told that they would take my information and a doctor would call me back, but instead, I was sent to collections. I do not feel this practice has the right to go back on their word because they "don't remember". Nor do I feel they have to right to make up bills at will or send me to collections for money that is not owed. My credit is being ruined and I want this resolved. I am filing a formal complaint. Desired SettlementI want the bill waived as promised and I want the bill that was sent to collections withdrawn.
