I am rejecting this response because: I do not wish to make a big deal out of this, however just to set the records straight Mr. [redacted] had purchased the same services from the same person 1 YEAR before [redacted] was charged $2,190.00. Mr. [redacted] was asked to pay only $1,381.00 , again for the same services. This now leaves their statement a little odd or was there a over charge which we can not get back ?

On April 4, 2007, complaintant's wife, *** ** ***, made her prearrangements through Chapel of the PinesShe was given a General Price List and chose a direct cremation with minimum cremation container, the cost of which, as indicated on the GPL, was $To this she chose to add an urn

Review: My wife had purchased prepaid cremation services from Chapel of the pines in Placerville CA, and was charged double the amount necessary for cost of cremation. I asked [redacted] for a refund in the amount of $1,328.00 since her other policy which [redacted] also has has more coverage that is necessary. They told me they can not refund because the policy is irrevocable. I understand that irrevocable is protection, but I'm the one who paid the money and it should be refunded to me if we paid way to much for the services of cremation. Please advise me how to handle this.Thank you,[redacted]Desired Settlement: Refund of $1,328.00

Response:

On April 4, 2007, complaintant's wife, [redacted], made her prearrangements through Chapel of the Pines. She was given a General Price List and chose a direct cremation with minimum cremation container, the cost of which, as indicated on the GPL, was $2190. To this she chose to add an urn costing $129. These prices are guaranteed meaning that even if the costs increase over time, at her passing her loved ones will not be charged any more for the services she already chose and paid for. The [redacted] relocated to Oregon and, in February 2015, we were asked to, and did, transfer Mrs. [redacted]'s prearrangements to one of our funeral homes close to them, [redacted]. Mrs. [redacted] was NOT charged double for the cremation, she was charged the prices that were listed in our GPL, and to which she agreed. I believe the complaint was filed because Mr. [redacted] discovered that [redacted]'s price for a cremation is approximately half of our price. As in any business, costs for services and merchandise vary from funeral home to funeral home, not to mention state to state. You will always find places that charge more as well as places that charge less; our pricing is very competitive and appropriate for this area and for the excellent service we provide all of our families. In speaking with [redacted] at [redacted], he indicated that cremation pricing in their area of Oregon was very low, perhaps one of the nation's lowest. As such, Mrs. [redacted] has chosen to have her prearrangements with us cancelled and rewritten at the lower priced Oregon funeral home, which will result in a refund of the difference (our charges less their charges) to the family. Our funeral home pricing for a cremation may well be close to double what it is in Medford, Oregon, but we did not charge Mrs. [redacted] double the amount as indicated in the complaint filed with you. As the prearrangement contract was for services at our funeral home, we charged exactly what was stated on our general price list, not on .any other funeral home's price list, be they more expensive than us or less.
