I used Charles Brothers to organize a committee driveway sealing day. Mike and his crew did an amazing job working with myself and the rest of my neighbors. We will for sure do this again.
I contacted Charles Brothers Asphalt to evaluate driveway replacement based on (1) Revdex.com accredited, (2) A+ rating (3) Clintonville Discussion Forum Facebook referral. I was pleasantly surprised to find out "capping" with 1 1/2 inches was a cost effective alternative. I discussed this with Dan in great detail, including the need to (1) Maintain drainage away from home and garage, (2) current asphalt is at grade of (a) Garage entry (b) basement window (c) Sidewalk from front porch, (3) 2 large potholes at the bottom of driveway (4) Potential to put asphalt under the sump pump drain to prevent further potholes. Dan assured me they would "grind" out in front of the garage, basement window and sidewalk but probably had enough clearance in front of side door. He said he would send me quotes for complete replacement versus capping. He recommended capping since (1) the house will be put on the market soon (2) cheaper (3) don't have to deal with tree root cutting, etc. On August 21, 2019, I signed the contract and emailed it to Dan. NO money was paid. I then repeatedly contacted Shannon to find an estimated start date. I understand that a commercial project ran over and was repeatedly told "next week." I finally received an email from Shannon suggesting September 30, 2019. I agreed. On September 30, the team appeared. However the job supervisor told me they would place 1 1/2 in asphalt in front of the basement window. He advised this could cause water retention. I told him that I needed to be able to pull the storm and screen windows from outside in order to reach the main sewer clean out and that if asphalt was in front, I would not be able to get window out. He pulled the team and told me they would grind out 4 feet and be back on October 1 to do job. On October 2, 2019 I contacted the company by phone. I was advised that Dan would call me at the end of day. On October 3, 2019, I again contacted the company by phone advising Dan had not called me. A few minutes later, I received a phone call telling me that Dan was in surgery. I asked to speak to the owners. I was told the owners would contact me for a time to come to the home and review the project. I called again on October 4, 2019. I was told the contract did not include "grinding". I reviewed the contract and saw that it said "chip" in front of the aforementioned areas. She advised me that chip was the product, not the procedure. On October 6, 2019 after no response from the owners, I called again. I frankly asked if they wanted to cancel the contract. I was told no. I still have not been contacted by the owners.
12.18.19 Revdex.com called business spoke with Shannon. She said business is not able to complete the type of work she is requesting.
Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: we have a signed contract saying they would complete the work. The business's employee physically inspected the job, described the contract verbally, wrote the contract, signed the contract. I countersigned the contract. The business came to do the work, said they did not have the proper equipment and would return the next day. They never returned.

Good morning just a follow up to this complaint. We have previously spoken to Ms. and several occasions informing her that we would not be able to do the work that she is requesting. The issue is not having the proper equipment, the issue is by doing a recap this will go up to her window and she will not be able to open it. We have told her that she is under no obligation to the contract, and we understand that our estimator signed the contract with her saying we would do the work, but after speaking to him and to her there was some miscommunication as to what was needed and the estimator informed her that she would need to take her driveway out and put a new one in. At this time we are just not able to the job she is needing and we are not holding her to any signed contract she is free t o find another contractor so that hopefully they can complete the work for her.Thanks and if you need anything further please let me know.Shannon ROffice Manager***Dalton Paving/Charles Brothers Asphalt***Groveport Ohio 43125(Dalton)(Charles)
Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: (1) Please provide documentation that Dan (the estimator) or anyone other than Shannon spoke or wrote to me. Shannon's standard response was that she would have an owner or Dan call me. In fact she told me she had only worked at Charles Brothers Asphalt for June and was unfamiliar with the technical details.(2) Please provide evidence I was offered driveway replacement. I originally asked for an estimate for driveway replacement. Dan, the estimator, believed that capping was a more cost effective option. I was not aware that recapping even existed. (3) On September 30, the job supervisor told me that they would grind out in front of the garage and window that afternoon and would be back the next day to complete the project. The company never reached out to me again. All remainder of contact was initiated by me to Shannon.I appreciate that the company is nullifying the contract. However, I believe that someone other than Shannon needs to respond to this complaint. I would appreciate an acknowledgement that the company's owners failed to respond to my concerns in a timely fashion. Even now, the company owners have left this issue to a receptionist.
