We rented Mr. [redacted]'s house at [redacted] in [redacted] on OCT. 1, 2013. He informed us that the house's central heat/ac unit did not work, but he purchased a window unit for heat and a/c. Now that winter is here, our electric bill has tripled because of the one window unit. We had to unplug it and use electrical space heaters as we could not afford the electric bill. The current temp. outside today is 25 and it is 46 inside the house WITH the space heaters on. We can't turn them on high as they blow the circuit breakers if we do. He HAS let us out of our lease, but I fear for anyone else who rents this house. There is NO insulation whatsoever and today, even though we let the water run all night, we have no hot water. This man needs to do SOME repairs to the electrical system, insulation and the heating/ac unit. It is unfit to rent to anyone! I'm 53 years old with arthritis and can barely move around with it as cold as it is in here. I sit in my chair in front of a heater, bundled up in wool socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants. There MUST be some sort of health violation for not providing heat for the whole house. There are 3 bedrooms, LR, kitchen and DR and the only room that has the heater, is the living room, but it's too expensive to operate. PLEASE help the next people who may rent from him. We're having to move now to a house that has heat. I'd like to get this last month's rent back to pay off my exorbitant electric bill.Product_Or_Service: 10/1/2013Desired SettlementI'd like to get this month's rent returned to be able to pay for our electric bill. The window unit did NOT keep the house warm but raised our electric bill. I'm hoping to get our deposit back on the 31st of this month when we move out, but I feel that for the suffering we've had to endure for this month, this house should be listed as uninhabitable because of insufficient access to heat. Our circuit breakers trip every 3 minutes if we turn our space heaters on high and use any appliance.More info received from the consumer 2014-01-28Mr. [redacted] came to see me today and has agreed to pay an extra $250, in addition to our security deposit of $550, on Friday when we do our final walk through. I will let you know when this happens.2014-02-01 -5 - More info received from the consumer 2014-02-01My husband and I met with Mr. [redacted] today, did a final walk through and received our deposit back with an additional $250. We have completely resolved all issues and would like to cancel this complaint, or if unable to do that, then put on record that Mr. [redacted] did everything to correct the problem. He was always very prompt whenever we had any problems, and has done so again.
