Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2014/04/15) */
This was quite an extensive job, to build a second story addition over a sun room where there used to be a deck. To make some things clear, this started in May of 2004 and finished in July 2004.
My daughter was not the project...

manager/site supervisor of this project, but she is a 4th year journeyman carpenter in the carpenters union and now is a safety superviosr [redacted].
It was discussed to rebuild the deck but the changes would not eliminate the problem altogether. So second option was to repair the rotten deck floor, which was the roof for the sun room below. The deck floor had some damage from someone chopping ice and snow off of it.
We discussed building a second story to close the room in with a roof over the entire addition, built onto the existing house roof. The Customer decided it was a good idea to build the second story. They had someone come in to upgrade the electrical to handle the addition.
The following spring when the customer phoned, the snow was melting off the eve of the roof. I had driven by earlier in the winter and observed 8 feet of ice sickles hanging down the eaves. When the Mrs. of the house called to complain, she yelled and screamed over the phone. I listened to her till she was finished and dare not go over to their house because of her response like that.
I figured out what the problem was, as we had discussed and agreed R12 insulation was put in the attic. This new room had no forced air heat in it; they said they would use electric heat. The combination of the two caused the ice to melt, dam on the eve of the roof and when melting occurred backing up under the shingles, therefor water in the walls.
I called them back and told them the heat in the room caused the problem. I suggested they put more insulation in the attic and to have the snow and ice removed. I did not suggest [redacted] go up on the roof. The response was more yelling and screaming.
That was it till the winter of 2012 and spring of 2013 where the weather was 10 days warm and 10 days cold off and on all winter. Then another phone call from an anonymous man who decided insulting me would get me to do something about the water coming again. After the call I called the customer and spoke with the Mr. of the house, explaining about more insulation and that because of the unusual freeze thaw winter and that other people were having the same problem occurring. They called to get consultation how to fix the problem. The Mr. of the house was polite and agreed with me on how to fix the problem. Then Mrs. of the house called about 10 minutes later yelling and screaming that the Mr. didn't know it was me he was speaking to. I tried to explain to her but she wouldn't listen and wouldn't have any of it.
That was it till now, spring of 2014. To tell you the truth neglect was the problem with the deck leaking into the sunroom in the beginning, by the extent of the rotten floor we had to remove and rebuild. The problem is still the same now.
In the beginning I offered , if they woudl suppy more insulation, I would install it but they refused. There is nothing I can do after 10 years; I am not responsible for any warranty now. It has nothing to do with quality of the work or if I did something wrong or improper.

Thank you for your consideration
