Review: This is a mixed review. I thought pretty highly of Scott and his company at the beginning and through the first 3 (of months) of the renovation. Very responsive and very on top of the job at first. He spoke highly about how he stood behind his work, his references agreed and he gained our trust him when he told us this.

The problems started in the last month of the job. Numerous problems cropped up, all involving subcontractors he used to perform the job. His plumbers scratched a new marble floor, the wood floor contractor sanded part of the floor unevenly in a very visible way, the electrician left electric problem with circuits shorting and data ports not working.

I would be the first to admit the contractor was dealt a rough set of cards. He was clearly dismayed by the problems as much as us. At first we were very thankful as he arranged to get the problems fixed. It took a few months but he made progress on his punchlist over the course of 3 months and fixed many of them. He asked for payment for these tasks and given the honest progress and effort we went ahead. He reaffirmed his commitment to finishing the work and guaranteed (in writing in a email) that the problems would be fixed.

Unfortunately, he lost interest and went back on his word. Despite the "guarantees" and the promises and all the talk about how he followed through on his work, he just stopped responding to emails and phone calls. Have not heard back from him. We still have the electric issues and data port issues that are not functioning.

The experience ends up being a disappointment. I have a lot of good things to say about Chatel Construction and was very happy for most of my experience. But when someone lies to you outright and deceives you to get paid it taints the whole relationship. I'm sure he has a lot of jobs where problems are easy to fix and everyone walks away happy. If you do use him, keep in mind that all the talk of guarantees and standing behind the job goes only so far. He claims he deserved the benefit of the doubt with the payment schedule given his reputation and commitments to his customer. This might be the case with some customers, but if he doesn't feel like its worth his time to he will walk away like he did with me.Desired Settlement: Repair

I have just received this notification of [redacted]'s complaint. It's unfortunate that all of the effort my firm placed in his project would be go unappreciated. We did a full renovation on his apartment with no less then three bathrooms, full kitchen, wall reconfigurations, new doors, millwork, floor finishing and painting . We had given [redacted] a project schedule and did in fact reach the completion date and had him move in on time. With all large remodeling projects there were situations that arose as [redacted] had indicated. I did in fact spend many hours, weeks and months working on having what ever objections he had resolved. Yes there was an issue with a section of flooring that was not sanded well. That was resolved with removing all the unsatisfactory areas, having them reinstalled and re finished to his satisfaction at no additional cost to him. There was in fact scratched in the one bathroom floor that we had a professional marble polisher come in to repair. [redacted] did not approve, We sent in another crew to sand and buff the small areas that had still some remnants of the scratches in but again [redacted] did not approve. So it was my decision to purchase new marble floor tile, remove the toilet and pedestal, remove all the newly installed floor tile, reinstall the new floor tile, grout it, reinstall the toilet and pedestal and then [redacted] approved of the repair. This floor repair cost my firm $2,450.00 of which there was no addiotnal cost to [redacted] because it was our doing and we wanted him satisfied. The electrical he speaks of had a problem in which the Electrician who did the work came back dozens of times to resolve. There was work being done on the exterior of the building and he could not get out there to see if that was the origin of the problem but he tried endlessly to resolve the problem. When the problem arose after we had finished the project and [redacted] and his family moved in, I had approved bringing in an additional electrician to trouble shoot the problems and resolve the issue which I paid for as part of out work. The work he is stating was all brought to his satisfaction with great effort on my companies part. The only issue [redacted] has is with one data port that is unusable. The electrician had run two lines to each location 12 lines in all. One line in the living room works, one did not. The electrician had tried countless times to find the problem with not success. I found and hired a data company to come in and find the problem. I spent months calling and coordinating the repair and finally had them in to trouble shoot the problem. They did find that there was a broken cable and could not repair it. Mocha had suggested a way to do it and I had the data company came back, again with me making countless calls and finally getting them back. Then when they were there the second time it could not be repaired. There where two lines installed in case the one was a problem. So my firm sent as much time getting those four problems to the point that [redacted] would be satisfied as we did to build the entire apartment. So I think it's unfair to to portray us as a firm that does not stand behind there word. His obsession with this one non working data port is what this post is about. Our 32 years in business have proven that we stand behind our work and strive to give clients complete satisfaction. There are some extenuating circumstances that are be fond our control. I will call [redacted] to review remedies for the data port.
