Chatham Boat Company Reviews (4)

We received our first notice regarding Mr***'s complaint on October 28, We do not give quotes for boat services that are based on time and materialsWe have no way of knowing ahead of time what problems we may encounter until the work is begunMr***'s claim that the boat was delivered with uncharged batteries is inaccurateThe batteries had been fully charged however after returning with his boat to the shop we discovered that the bilge pump had drained the batteries because the plastic thru hull fittings were broken allowing rain water to enter into the bilge causing the bilge pump to run until batteries were drainedThese broken thru hulls would ultimately have resulted in his boat taking on water once it was launchedTo avoid this, it was necessary to replace the broken thru hulls and the bilge pumpThis added extra labor and materialsIn addition when commissioning his engine it was necessary to replace his fuel injectors because of water damage and lack of prior proper maintenanceThis also added extra time and materials that are not part of engine commissioning. In closing, after receiving his two invoices, he did call and this information was conveyedHe did not say that he was unwilling to pay the bill and he has not called sinceWe also want to add that this all occurred right before the 4th of July holiday and we got the boat back to him in time for him to use

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # [redacted] Please add your rejection comments below Thank you for your responseTo be clear, I'm more than happy to pay for the work that was discussed, which would be in the neighborhood of $1,It's the out of scope work that is in questionA few notes to clarify:1) Based off our conversation and your rate sheet (attached), I had requested the following services: wash, wax inside & out, bottom paint, trail, battery charge, haul/launch (w/ addt'l 2.50/mi), scupper replacement, antenna installAside from the interior wax (which apparently wasn't done), all of the #s on those items appear to be accurate on my bill (also attached), and I am happy to pay for themThat also goes for the bilge pump as we did discuss that upon the failed boat launch.2) The items in question are the engine tune-up, fuel injectors, and the other services on the bill that were never discussed or approvedI never requested these services, nor was I made aware that they were being doneHad you told me that you were planning to provide these services, I could have shopped around and/or declined.3) To add insult to injury, the engine has broken down times since we brought it to youPrior to this tune up, it had never had a problem.4) In addition, there were services requested that were NOT provided upon delivery: the interior boat wax and scupper replacementAs noted, the boat was delivered with an uncharged battery as well.Again, I am more than happy to pay for the services that we requested that were provided, but it is unfair to provide and bill for services that were never requested without any communication that you're planning to do so.Regards, [redacted] ***

We received our first notice regarding Mr. [redacted]'s complaint on October 28, 2015. We do not give quotes for boat services that are based on time and materials. We have no way of knowing ahead of time what problems we may encounter until the work is begun. Mr. [redacted]'s claim that the boat was delivered...

with uncharged batteries is inaccurate. The batteries had been fully charged however after returning with his boat to the shop we discovered that the bilge pump had drained the batteries because the plastic thru hull fittings were broken allowing rain water to enter into the bilge causing the bilge pump to run until batteries were drained. These broken thru hulls would ultimately have resulted in his boat taking on water once it was launched. To avoid this, it was necessary to replace the broken thru hulls and the bilge pump. This added extra labor and materials. In addition when commissioning his engine it was necessary to replace his fuel injectors because of water damage and lack of prior proper maintenance. This also added extra time and materials that are not part of normal engine commissioning. In closing, after receiving his two invoices, he did call and this information was conveyed. He did not say that he was unwilling to pay the bill and he has not called since. We also want to add that this all occurred right before the 4th of July holiday and we got the boat back to him in time for him to use.

Thank you for your response. To be clear, I'm more than happy to pay for the work that was discussed, which would be in the neighborhood of $1,200. It's the out of scope work that is in question. A few notes to clarify:1) Based off our conversation and your rate sheet (attached), I had requested the following services: wash, wax inside & out, bottom paint, trail, battery charge, haul/launch (w/ addt'l 2.50/mi), scupper replacement, antenna install. Aside from the interior wax (which apparently wasn't done), all of the #s on those items appear to be accurate on my bill (also attached), and I am happy to pay for them. That also goes for the bilge pump as we did discuss that upon the failed boat launch.2) The items in question are the engine tune-up, fuel injectors, and the other services on the bill that were never discussed or approved. I never requested these services, nor was I made aware that they were being done. Had you told me that you were planning to provide these services, I could have shopped around and/or declined.3) To add insult to injury, the engine has broken down 3 times since we brought it to you. Prior to this tune up, it had never had a problem.4) In addition, there were services requested that were NOT provided upon delivery: the interior boat wax and scupper replacement. As noted, the boat was delivered with an uncharged battery as well.Again, I am more than happy to pay for the services that we requested that were provided, but it is unfair to provide and bill for services that were never requested without any communication that you're planning to do so.Regards,
