Re: Claim ID ***
Date: 6/24/Dear, *** ***
In response to your claim letter dated 6/18/2014, we feel that
CHC Construction has fulfilled their
obligations of the contract for the specified project in the claimCHC Construction has over years of
experience in the construction industry and has completed over concrete projects in the past yearFor this project all the prep work and forms were completed prior to the arrival of the concrete truckThe concrete installation started immediately and was finished within the time frame that the concrete
supplier allowsAny testing such as “slump” test would be the responsibility of the client not the
contractor unless specifiedThe client would be responsible for hiring the third party to test the
concrete if they feft it was needed at the time of the concrete installationThe concrete 40004$, was the
design mix sent to the project from the supplierStated in the contract (see attached) there are to be no de-icer materials (rock salt, calcium, etc.)
applied to the finished concrete for yearsIf any of these de-icer materials are applied to the concrete
it may result in “SPALLING” of the finish surfaceCHC feels that the spalling of the concrete is due to the
de-icer materials being applied by the client to the concrete in the winter monthsThe spalling of the
surface does not affect the structural integrity of the concreteAlso, because the client is not an
experienced concrete finisher he cannot determine if the concrete had been overworkedCHC
Construction stands behind their workmanship on every projectCHC Construction has sealed the concrete twice (once by contract) and the second time at CHC expenseWe are sorry that the client is not happy with the finished project but CHC Construction has done
everything they can within the contract agreements and deny any monies compensation to the Ownercerely,

In reference to the letter from the company rock salt was never used and after showing the problems to other concrete company's I was told it was not sealed correctly as seen in the one picture and also too much calcium and aggarat was applied I don't know much about concrete as company's that do this work would but I don't see what a unpaid balance and my issues have to do with one another.

I agree with the first reviewer. CHC Construction was very prompt to give me a competitive quote and the owner was exceptionally friendly. He assured me he knew what he was doing and was experienced in using the Graniflex product however the quality of the work done is very poor; they don't pay attention to any details, don't show up when they claim, they don't return phone calls, and the owner never once visited our home to see the work being done or to visit to see how bad the job was.
Once they realized I had contacted the manufacturer of the product(s) to discuss how bad the job CHC never called me back. After submitting pictures to the manufacturer they did agree that the job was the worst they had ever seen. The manufacturer put me in contact with another contractor they trust and is certified in the installation of their product. That new contractor visited the job and agreed that the original installation was a complete mess and the only way to resolve the problem was to strip off the product and return the floor back to bare concrete. CHC has taken no ownership. CHC did make it very clear that they would schedule nothing without my down payment and would not start the job without the next 1/3 payment. Again I agree with the prior reviewer. All they care about is about cashing the money as per contract and deliver the minimum. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
We are waiting on the floor to be ground down back to bare concrete and have the incorrectly installed product removed. It is a real mess. The product was put on too thick, pooling into high spot in several places and forming permanent bubbles in other areas, the base coats were not thinned properly (per the manufacturer), it took days to dry when it should have taken hours, and the top clear coat, like the base coat, was put on too thick and formed pools of hardened sealer with its own bubbles. Worst of all is the smell. There should have been no strong odor but because the base coat was put on so thick as well as the top sealer coat we have a high VOC ( Volatile organic chemicals ) level which translate to a very strong smell.
I am not an angry customer looking to bash a contractor. This is a real and honest review. I took the time to involve the manufacturer and ask for their assistance. They reviewed the work and agreed that the job was done incorrectly. I am now left with an incomplete job and more expenses to return the floor to its pristine state and then pay another contractor, who is certified by the manufacturer, to have it done correctly. I would not do business with this contractor.
My advise is - go elsewhere. There are better contractors out there.

In response to the letter from the Customer dated 9/1/2014 she states that the French drain was
installed to shallow in which has caused water run-off sitting next...

to the house. The client was made
aware of existing water problems that needed to be corrected by the township and that the installation
of the contractors drains only will help with some surface water but not a fix for their overall water
problems. CHC Construction has returned to the project three times to review and help to correct the
client issues and once again they are made aware that the water problem is with the township not with
the contractor work. The existing alleyway slopes toward the client’s house so when it rains the run-off
flows against the house (township problem). It is the client responsibility to follow-up with the township
to correct the water run-off problem not the contractor.
The ramp has always been intended to be installed as a concrete ramp (see attached contract). As for
code based on slope of the ramp the client was made aware that they didn’t have the space for a 1 in 12
rise. The client understood the issue and agreed to the slope because her father would not be alone at
any time when using the ramp.
The contract was with the father not the daughter please review the attached contract.
CRC Construction is sorry that the client is not happy with the finished project but CHC Construction has
done everything they can within the contract agreements and deny any monies compensation to the
Owner.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
First of all, I have been working with contractors to include concrete since 1974 to include being trained in concrete construction for [redacted] in [redacted], Illinois as a construction coordinator.    My training included pouring foundations, sidewalks and driveways.  Plus as a building manager for over 12 years in the Air Force, it was my responsability to coordinate and verify all materials coming into the building to include doing slump testing for proper concrete mixing.

Slump testing is simple and does not cost anything.  A simple cone  of concrete is piled to about 10 inches and the droop or slump of it is measured after 1 minute.  Most 4,000 PSI concrete will slump between 1 - 3 inches.  This should have been done before the concrete was ever poured.

Plus, I have had 2 different contractors state that this concrete was not worked correctly and will continue to fail.

Additionaly, there was no salt at any time on the steps and sidewalk to the steps during the one year cure period.  The year the concrete was poured was a mild winter and very little salt from the street was on the concrete and it was washed off as ofter as possible.

also indicating poor construction, the screen used in the steps is too close to the surface and rust is showing through in multiple places from normal rain water.

I am requesting full refund of the contract and additional for removal of the hand rails and re-installation after new concrete has been installed.

If photo's are needed, they can be produced.
Regards,

CHC did a large concrete project for me in 2015. Was not a good experience. Driveway and patio are cracking(no salt used) Driveway was not measured correctly, different pours are now contrasting colors. Was told would make good and then they were nowhere to be found. I did try dozens of times to make it right so I would not have write a negative review. Now I want to make others aware.

Dear [redacted],In reference to the letter dated 10/10/2017, ID # [redacted], filed by [redacted], the contract was signed by[redacted]. The original contract was dated 5/3/2016 and signed 5/9/2016. CHC was contracted to do a dekorcoteinstall on her patio, color choice of the customer. The work...

was complete on 7/14/2016. She originally complained about the edges of the patio not be completed. WhichPete did go out to look at and had one of CHC workers, fix the edges. When she complained of the crack after the winter,Pete was out to look at the crack. He did explain that someone would be out to do the repairs, but the weather had tocooperate. For the dekorcote install, there can not be any chances of rain, moisture, or humidity in the area, and thetemperature has to be above 50’s or the product will not adhere to the surface and it will bubble and become defective.March, April and May of 2017, it was cold and rainy. June it did start to finally warm up, but still remained rainy.July it stormed several days. During these months, the customer did contact us and we remained in contact with her.Everytime, she insisted on meeting with Pete, he did meet her at her home several times. In August, ChIC attemptedto have someone do the repairs and she had other work scheduled, therefore, would not allow the repairs to be done.August31, 2017 we made another attempt to do the repairs, and she told the worker, he was not allowed to do the repairs. She wanted Pete to be there and watch our worker do the repair work. CHC explained we made attempts to do therepairs, Pete showed our worker what had needed to be done, and he could not be there to watch the worker do his job.Pete is the owner of the company, looks at many jobs, does work on occasional jobs and checks in on them as needed,He was not available to watch over the worker at that time, and due to us attempting twice to do the repairs, she wouldhave to wait, for another time to do the repairs. CHC has paid our worker twice to come out and complete them for her,but she refused twice for them to complete the work.Sincerely,CHC Enterprise

Review: This company put a large driveway in for me. In 2 days the color was different and I was told its due to different concrete from 2 companies (not my problem) now the driveway is cracking and also the path way where they stamped the concrete is falling apart. It is not done correctly and for 60k which he took he should answer my phone calls and have the heart to fix this. It hasn't even been a year and I have been told by other Professional concrete company this was not done right and to have it done right requires the old stuff to be removed. So again I am asking for your help in getting this resolved.Desired Settlement: I want this company to come out here and fix the issues correctly and not with cheap concrete and reseal the parts they fix.

Review: We paid to have our sidewalk repaired, a french drain installed and a ramp. The contractor now has all of the water in the back yard running and sitting up next to the house. The french drain was only dug about 6 inches in the ground and the drain at the end of the ramp does not work. I have tried for over a year to get the contractor to come back and address these issues. The work was done for my 79 year old father. The contractor refuses to even come and look at the problem. Once they had all the money they were not concerned with the work they did.It was bad enough the ramp was to be wood and they took it upon themselves to put in a concrete one. The grade is not to code so we wanted would incase we would have to remove it. Cant do this now either.Desired Settlement: I would either like a solution to the water draining and sitting up against the house now and I would like the french drain put at a proper depth and a drain that works put at the end of the ramp. If they dont want to fix their work, they could refund us some money so we could find someone capable of doing the work properly.

In response to the letter from the Customer dated 9/1/2014 she states that the French drain was

installed to shallow in which has caused water run-off sitting next to the house. The client was made

Review: On or about July 6, 2012, CHC Construction owned by [redacted] and [redacted], poured 4 sections of concrete at [redacted]. 1. The lower left pad on bottom of the driveway.2. Upper section by the street.3. First section by the driveway on the sidewalk.4. Steps leading to the front porch and first section by the steps. (All one pore.)When the concrete was poured, the crew arrived after the concrete mixer. As soon as the crew arrived, they started to pour the concrete immediately. The slump of the concrete was never checked to see if the mix was correct. After the first winter on the concrete, it started to spall, scale and the edges break off. After talking with [redacted] many times over the summer of 2013, he said he would seal the concrete before winter set in and if that did not fix the issue, would replace the concrete in 2014. It was sealed in approximately September 2013.In the spring of 2014, [redacted] was contacted about newly spalled areas and other edges of the concrete breaking off. At that time he said he would talk to the concrete suppliers and get back to me when all the concrete would be replaced.Again, after many, many calls to both [redacted] and [redacted], through [redacted], I was informed that there was nothing to be done. I talked to the concrete suppliers and according to them, the truck was out and back within normal times for a load to my address. This project cost $4,875 which was paid in full.I think this concrete was overworked and caused the surface to allow water to enter and create the failing of the surface.Request refund of full amount and cost of filing to be able to have the concrete work done correctly by another contractor. Plus, $500 to have the rail removed and then reinstalled to accommodate the concrete work.Desired Settlement: Refund of the original $4,875.00, plus $500.00 to have the handrails removed and re-installed to accomidate the concrete work. Total $5,375.00.
