Dear ***, In response to the correspondence you sent me regarding Miss ***, we went out to Miss ***'s home twice over the course of one week recently regarding some water penetration that she contacted our office about The first time was to address a small leak
which she had experienced near the center her home After inspecting the roof, we did not find any problems with the roof installation, nor did we find any defects in any of the roof materials that we used We then entered the attic and found the source of the leak Please see the attached photo that shows a bathroom vent pipe that is angled towards Miss ***'s ridge vent Bathroom vents should always be vented outside of the home and should never be vented inside of the attic space The warm air escaping from the attic vent pipe caused snow which was sitting on the roof to melt and drip into the attic through the ridge vent. We went back to Miss ***'s home again several days later after she complained of water showing up on her floor near her fireplace After again inspecting the roof, we found nothing wrong, but did notice that some of the wood at the top of her chimney had pulled away from the chimney which allowed rain to seep in which caused the damage to her floor After our second visit to Miss ***'s home, I personally spoke to her and explained to her that I sympathize with her regarding the damage to her hardwood floors, but the bath vent in her attic should never have been installed the way that it was and the wood at the top of Miss ***'s chimney is approximately feet above her roof and is not at all connected to the roof work we did for her last year Unfortunately, Miss *** refuses to accept my explanation of the situation and insists that somehow my company is culpable for the damage that she incurred. Fortified Roofing always stands behind the work that we do The explanation above, together with the attached photo's clearly show the cause of the problems that Miss *** experienced These problems are in no way the fault of Fortified Roofing.Best regards, John K President

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: There was no snow! Interior damage started long before it was winter.   The roof was installed in July. Floor discoloration by the fireplace was 1st noticed around September. It was very mild wood discoloration, a few inches.  I never once thought it was water. It seem to progressively get a little bit worse so I called the flooring people. They came out the same week the roofers came out. There was no damage to my hardwood floors prior to the roof being installed. "Joe" the roofer who came out Tuesday said "a pipe" was sticking up and he "fixed it". The pipe John referenced earlier. Furthermore, this same pipe has no connection to my storeroom, as I have since learned. John mislead me on this as well (see attached pictures) this vent pipe goes directly to my bathroom, there has been no water problems in my bathroom. After Joe came on Tuesday, hardwood floor damage grew 10 fold and it became clear, damage was water related. I'm not sure what Joe really did on that Tuesday. The roofers were again on the roof a few days later, Friday. Since that Friday, there has been no further damage. So what did they do up there! Regards, [redacted]
