Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/03/14) */
In June of *** came in with her son *** the other son had called a number of times and asked about our services and how we could help his mother use some old hearing aids of his wifesWe said we would try our best*** is
an eccentric older woman of years oldI got a kick out of her and we joked around to keep things lightShe did at one time say some bad words but we ignored themOften people with dementia or dementia like symptoms do thatI did not take offenceWe took a case history and did a hearing test with no chargeThey wanted earmolds and a for me to fit with old Siemens aidsWe said we would and we charge for fitting fee and moldsShe had wax impaction and we had to send her home to try and get it out with waterWe did not charge for that consultation and appointmentJuly 13th, they came back and I removed wax from her ear at no charge ($50/ear value)I did a hearing test also at no charge (80$ value) and I went over the audiogramHer right ear has very poor discrimination and I didn't recommend a hearing aid in that ear as it was my professional opinion it would not work well for her and to save her moneyIt was also my professional opinion not to fit *** with behind the ear older aids that wouldn't sound good and earmolds that she had never worn before as *** was dead set on having her little tiny in the ear aid in that left earInstead I recommended a new left in the ear hearing aid with some good power to make her happyHer son *** wanted to do that but ***l said no and wanted to continue with the older aid set with new moldsI thought I would be so kind and offer them my grandma's hearing aids that were current technology so at least the sound quality would be better than the old ones of his wifeMy grandma had died the year before and I said I would give them to her for use for free until they no longer needed themBut yes we do charge for our timeJuly 17th I fit *** with earmolds and my grandma's nice Siemens hearing aidsShe said this"My right ear sounds blatty" and did not like the sound qualityI adjusted and adjusted for her own voice and for her to hear usShe continued to be upset about the pair of hearing aids and wanted her in the ear aid back in her earShe in fact would not even let me touch her in the ear aid to clean or repair itI counseled family members on why she didn't like the sound quality and why it would be difficult for her to do something new with the behind the ear modelsI did say that I would role over the fitting fee to a new aid if that is the direction they wanted to goand that is what I recommended again on July 17thOn July 30th I called and checkedThey said it was going OK but *** still wanted an In the ear aidI didn't hear anything furtherIn Oct they came back and again report that she was not wearing my grandma's aids much as she was not adjusting to themI was not surprised and counseled again on why this was hard for her and the degree of hearing loss in that right ear was not goodAgain I recommended a small new left aidThis was an hour appointment and they at that time purchased a year service fee instead of paying $for the visit***l her son has called and spoken with my employee on a number of times trying to get her back in off and on asking for opinions and trying to align his schedule as he lives far awayHe made an appointment for his mom this last winter but then canceled at the last momentHe then called a few weeks ago and said he got a second opinion that the right ear is goodAccording to my professional opinion, the right ear isn't good but if he wants to buy her new aids that would be his money and money was always an issue as I don't believe he was making the right choices for his mom and her hearing needsI am willing to give him back $for the year service they didn't use minus $for the last visit minus $for the ear wax removal that I could have charged minus $for hearing testThat would be -$back plus my grandma's hearing aids back
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/03/17) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Information in the response is simply wrongChears response is full of the same kind of disrespectful remarks and "funny money" reasoning that accrued expenses to us of $and all we got out of it was two ear moldsI have the credit card statements in front of me and can produce them as proof if Chears disputes the chargesI can also provide the medical records for professional removal of impacted wax from mom's earChears never did that! Mom's own doctor couldn't even do itWe had to send her to a specialistAm I suppose to be entertained by the nonsensical adding and subtracting of expenses at the end of Chears response? It reflects how we were "played" all alongAll we want is some reasonable partial reimbursement of the money that we paid to receive professional service that we never gotWe will return the hearing aids and discontinue the relationshipI am ready to carry this further with a civil suit of malpractice if I do not receive some kind of reasonable responseI have the records from another audiologist of a test two years ago and a test subsequent to Chears test that show both ears to be nearly equal in range and both serviceable with aidsLet me please encourage a reasonable resolution
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2016/03/21) */
I am sorry *** that you feel this wayI also have every visit documentedI did nothing to warrant malpractice as I have followed my professional ethics hereI stand by the fact that your mother has poor hearing in both ears and worse in the rightShe has 13% discrimination ability and a hearing aid in that ear will only bring in poor quality of soundI counseled you and your siblings about this abilityI charged you for my time onlyNot my grandma's hearing aids which were much better than what you wanted to fit your mother with and you agreed and were thankful that I did thatYou were never concerned about her hearing other than the money you spentwhich is evident now againSad reallyEven on the phone the other day you said I had been helpful and kindBut you wanted your money backI can not do that because you used the services and it isn't rightI wish your mom the bestI hope you get her a new hearing aid in the left earIf she comes back to me, I will give her a discount, but I would like to see her with *** or your sisterNot youYou are difficult to work with and disrespectful to what I have been advising and if you would have listened to what I recommended at first all would be good and your mom would be happyI don't appreciate threats and I stand behind the services I provided to your mom
