Brake lines routed incorrectly-
Brake lines routed incorrectly- rear master cylinder line for front brake control was routed to exit port for LF wheel and LF wheel line routed to master cylinder inlet at ABS pump. Master cylinder damage from incorrect line routing cause from brakes to lock up. Had taken this vehicle to *** because of the brakes locking up and I was asked who worked on my brakes last. I informed them that Chesapeake Imports did this work. *** replaced Brake line from proportioning valve to left lower port of ABS module ONLY. They mentioned that the other lines were not done very well and that the bending, flaring and routing was done very poorly and that I could expect to experience other line issues from this very poor work. ( this is what *** quoted on the repair order)

Desired Outcome

Refund the $811.00 I spent to correct this issue that Chesapeake imports cause and repair/correct the brake lines that very installed "very poorly"

Chesapeake Import Services Response • May 15, 2020

On Friday June 7th, 2019, the customer brought his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to our shop for an emissions related repair. Before we were able to put the vehicle on our lift, the customer needed to return and remove the larges pieces of marble from the bed of his truck. We performed the necessary diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the emissions failure, which was an issue with an open circuit. After repairing the electrical circuit in the main harness, the tech attempted to back the vehicle out of the shop and the brake pedal went to the floor. There was a puddle of brake fluid below the left front wheel.

The customer was contacted and informed that he had brake fluid leaking from two lines. He responded that they had just been done recently somewhere else. I instructed he call the place that had done the repair and see if it is still under warranty, so they could address the issue for him for free if it was covered. I explained that if it was done here that our warranty would cover the repairs for two years or 24,000 miles as long as the vehicle was brought back to us for repair. He declined taking it to the previous repair shop and was given an estimate for us to do the repair. Our technician repaired the leaking lines and road tested the vehicle. He noted that the brake booster vacuum supply pump was inoperative. The customer declined further repairs and picked up the vehicle. He was also informed that the fuel return line was badly rusted and needed replacement soon and that the rear tires were low on tread and dated 13 years old. At checkout, I gave the customer copy of his invoice, which included a detailed description of our warranty on the bottom. Our warranty clearly states that "the vehicle must be returned to Chesapeake Import Services for inspection and repairs under warranty." It also states that "if the vehicle cannot be driven then it must be towed at the owner's expense."

On Monday May 4th, 2020, the customer called our shop and stated he had taken his vehicle to *** on April 16th, 2020. He informed our receptionist that he had that repair facility "replace the brake lines that we poorly repaired." The customer was informed that the vehicle would have had to come back to our facility for inspection and repair to be covered under our warranty. He insisted that we reimburse him for the repair or he was going to proceed with litigation. The business owner instructed our receptionist to reiterate to the customer that the vehicle needed to be returned to our shop for inspection prior to the repair being performed according to our warranty statement printed on all of our invoices. The customer stated that his lawyer recommended trying to resolve this out of court and since we were not going to refund his money, he would proceed with other options.

On Tuesday May 12th, 2020 we received a letter from the Revdex.com of Greater Maryland. We have never had a Revdex.com complaint in the almost 30 year history of the business being open. If the vehicle had been brought to us for inspection and repair and it turned out that the lines we had installed were leaking, we would have covered this repair under warranty. Please note that there are six brake fluid lines that go to the ABS pump. If there was an issue with any of the other four brake fluid lines, they would not be covered under the warranty. We were not given the opportunity to address the concern.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I brought my 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to this shop for an emissions related repair. I was told that there was a brake line leak and had to be repaired. I was very puzzled because I'd not seen any leaks after driving the vehicle and parking it at home in my driveway. The tech showed me a small leak under the truck but I decided to not take any chances and get it repaired anyway. The reason I didn't bring it back to Chesapeake Import is that at the time I didn't know the problem I was having was related to the work they did earlier. I took it to *** because I felt the brakes were locking after driving and I had no idea it was from the work Chesapeake Imports had done until after *** had informed me that whoever worked on the brakes last did a poor job and routed the lines incorrectly. By that time *** had already disassemble the lines and some other components and we were at a point where we couldn't put the lines back together.
