Review: Cheshire Roofing installed a new roof on our home in January 2013. Initially we were very happy with the product and customer service. However, that has changed. We had a medium-sized cupola on the top of our roof that needed to be taken down and stabilized (walls rebuilt) before new roofing could be installed on it. Cheshire Roofing said at the time that they would be happy to come back and finish roofing the cupola and re-install it after we had it fixed. We made the necessary fixes last summer, and have been calling them to finish the job ever since. My husband and I have both phoned and left messages on multiple occasions and no one will return our calls. We paid our bill in full (our mistake) at the time of service, and now we are dealing with an unfinished job. We are finding ourselves in the position of now possibly having to call, and pay, another roofing company to complete a Cheshire Roofing job that should have been wrapped up months ago.Desired Settlement: We would like the job completed in a timely manner. At the very very least we would expect the courtesy of a phone call explaining the situation from their end.

Cheshire Roofing entered into a contract with [redacted] in December of 2012 to complete a roofing project at their [redacted] residence. The contract is in writing spelling out all areas of this project and is available for posting or viewing. The contract does not mention the cupola in any of the language- reason is that during the project the cupola area was found to be in disrepair. At this time we offered two alternatives to assist this customer at no additional cost 1. take it down and eliminate it or 2. have the base re-built and we would re-install it. The customer offered #2 and we agreed to provide this service at NO CHARGE. However, we did not hear back from this customer until November 2013, (11 months later) which was a bad time as the winter had started with snow and ice. We told the customer to call when ready in spring- and have not heard from them until now.

We will make contact and provide this service for free. The customer states they paid their bill in full (our mistake) and now they are dealing with an unfinished job. That is totally untrue as Cheshire Roofing fulfilled all steps in the contract as specified.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely,

Review: Last fall Cheshire Roofing replaced my roof, in June/July of this year we went to turn on our central air to find it did not work. After contacting an air conditioning company to see what was wrong they determined a nail from the roofers went through a pipe which made the unit release all the gas inside the unit. I called Cheshire Roofing to let the know and it took several calls before Steve came out. I called several more times looking for resolution on the bill I had to pay to have my unit fixed. The central air company said the roofer used nails that were way to long for the application that his how the damage occurred. I have photos nails coming through my roof on that side of the house and you can also see the incorrect nails were used on my shed, someone can cut their head open due to the way the roof is angled. I would like to be repaid for fixing my central air and my shed fixed. I have an invoice from [redacted] for $2,042.92 and photos of the nails in the attic.Desired Settlement: $2,042.92 for fixing my central air and I want the shed roof fixes so we don't have long nails popping through the roof.

Response:

Roof completed using 1 1/2 standard roofing nails as required by shingle company [redacted] and every other shingle manufacturer in North America. Nails are extended inside attic/shed approximately 3/4 inch which is standard.

Pipe was allegedly damaged by roofing nail coming through during job and piercing pipe. Pipe was installed improperly by air conditioning installer. Installed flush and against inside of plywood on attic. State code is 1 1/2 inch from any outside wall. If installed within 1 1/2 inches, pipe needs a nail plate. Pipe was installed flush against wood and had no nail plate. Not roof installation error or fault of Cheshire Roofing.

Homeowner has photographs that show exactly what I described in the above text. Air conditioning company verbally told homeowner that we used nails that were too long. Completely false. Their fault installing pipe as described.

Roofing for over twenty years. Never had this incident before. Homeowner is understandably upset, however, air conditioning install or whoever installed pipe was wrong. State code proves it.

I left Revdex.com for this very type of complaint. Had approx. four complaints in years of Revdex.com membership. I believe in the program, however, the homeowner looking for something without knowledge causes a black eye to legitimate businesses. Complaint, weather legitimate or not, are for public display and affect rating. [redacted] Homeowner makes a complaint to Revdex.com about their chimney leaking. I complete flashing over on two chimneys one month after completing job in copper- just to show them that the chimney flashing was fine. Their attorney agrees with me during meeting and tells homeowner their wrong, that bricks are leaking not flashing. They make complaint to Revdex.com- found unfounded. Three years later they make the same complaint and Revdex.com accepts it?????????? This one is the best.... I am answering a complaint and I'm not a member of Revdex.com anymore.

I have completed over 300 roofs a year for 20 years with four complaints... 6,000 roofs and thousands of repairs, siding, windows etc. and four complaints and my rating went from A + tp A -. Revdex.com is a bad deal for a business that cares and will have minor complaints with big volume. And try and get a person on the phone.... all computer contact.

I am still meeting complainant at home to explain all this to her.
