Purchased bike that smokes upon start-up and has leak at base gasket. I purchased the bike Thursday night. It had 7 miles on it. I did not ride it Friday. It smoked on cold start then dissipated at the dealer prior to delivery. During the sales process I voiced my concerns. The assisting staff, 5 of them, including their head mechanic told me it was assembly lube, they all agreed I'd never see it again. On Saturday morning, roughly 40 hours later and now with 42 miles on the odometer I started the bike while sitting on it and drove a few blocks to my sons home. Upon arrival I noticed the smoke and quickly grabbed my camera and shot a video. At this point the smoke dissipated. Next, while riding I was stopped at a signal and I could smell oil, so I inspected the bike and noticed an oil leak at the base of the rear cylinder. As the odor was more of a burned oil I do not suspect this as the source. I then contacted my sales associate and told him I was no longer confident in the Harley I purchased. He assured me they would take care of me. When I arrived at the dealer we began negotiating a different bike. Each time they ran the numbers they expected me to take $5000.00 ish hit on the trade valued. After 5 hours I left angry and frustrated. In my opinion these employees should know, or did know what they are selling. They're attitude is unbecoming. Yesterday while traveling my wife and I stopped at a different dealer. Of course the subject came up and next we are running numbers. That dealer "sweeten" the trade by $2500.00. Even though they witnessed the smoke themselves they condescendingly put the liability on me.When I returned with the bike I wanted to purchase another bike and the contract on this bike rescinded. They denied me that option. Today I intend to purchase a bike from the other dealer.Desired SettlementChesters Reno Harley Davidson cover the trade gap loss with the new dealer.
