I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
The only thing I disagree with was I did not have cards given to me with appointments but the rest is accurateI will hope they pay the payment overages that they said they would

somehow under the mistaken impression that her son's therapist was a psychologist. Instead, this professional is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, with the credentials of M.Ed., LPCC, NCC, behind her name. She is a therapist who provides family therapy and individual therapy at CPP, LLC. She is not a psychologist.
In a mental health center such as ours, it is unusual but possible for someone not to become aware of the exact credentials of a therapist because all the professionals in our center are licensed in their particular profession, and are referred to as therapists, regardless of their exact credentials. What can also be confusing is that it is accurate to state that all the therapists provide "psychological services," regardless of their exact credentials. We have Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Psychologists. All, including Licensed Psychologists, provide therapy of one sort or another. It needs to be noted that the credentials of our therapists are always spelled out, both in correspondence and on the appointment cards given for appointments.
I called the complainant and was grateful that she talked with me. She had asked for a psychologist because her insurance let her know that her copay would be less if her son was treated by a psychologist. Our staff should have asked her to clarify her reasons for the request and explained that our psychologist would not be available due to time constraints. What seems to have happened is that the complainant was offered an appointment with the LPCC referred to above because this therapist has training and experience with the presenting problem and is qualified to provide the needed treatment, The complainant scheduled five more appointments, for each of which she received an appointment card which lists the therapist's credentials. If the therapist referred to herself as a psychologist, as the complainant reported, this should not have happened. I have made sure the therapist understands this.
Our office staff was sympathetic to the complainant about the unexpected doubling of her copay, and offered to write off the additional fee for the six sessions.
As a professional Company, we are constantly looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate that the complainant has brought to our attention that we need to be more explicit about the credentials of our professional providers. I will make sure that all our therapists are alert about the possibility of misunderstandings about credentials, and if needed, to state that they are not a psychologist. We will make sure that from now on all clients receive a written statement about their therapists, including a spelling out of their professional credentials, not just the abbreviations. We hope that by doing this, together with the appointment cards that clients already receive, we will prevent mistaken Impressions in the future.
It is unfortunate that the complainant did not realize that her son's therapist was not a psychologist until alerted by her insurance bill for additional copay. I offered to the complainant that pay the additional copay cost for her, which she accepted, I thank you for your letter bringing these matters to our attention, I am hopeful that my response will resolve the problems.
Yours sincerely,
