Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital Reviews (3)

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: The hospital says that “Doctors at our practice are instructed to inform owners that prior to sedation, it is impossible to determine if teeth are diseased or loose...” Unfortunately, this practice didn't notify Dr. [redacted] of their mandatory instructions to clients because there was NEVER any conversation alluding to or indicating that this was the case. If a policy such as that had been brought to my attention, I most certainly would have gone somewhere else. To claim that my dog's teeth were so loose that they needed to be extracted, should have been something that was noticed during the initial consultation – had a proper examination been given. If these teeth needed to be pulled, I should have been notified prior to them taking it upon themselves to do it without my consent, because again – I would have gone and received another opinion. I did sign a consent form at Chews Landing Hospital, but just like the hospital stated themselves in their response “...the extractions were not included on the estimate or on the consent form”. Again, Chews Landing Hospital made a decision without my consent and without WRITTEN and/or verbal permission from me to do so. Unfortunately, the hospital felt the need to call the police because they didn't know how to rectify the situation. To claim that they felt “unsafe” is extremely offensive to me, especially since I was the one who felt unsafe. The entire staff stood around belittling, ridiculing and undermining me. They made light of the situation, which is extremely unsettling, since I was there to get answers for their negligence. I trusted this hospital to take care of my dog, so I'm completely confused and upset as to why my dog was violated, and had to endure unnecessary pain. I am my dog's voice and as his protector, I was stripped of that right by this hospital. I never gave them authorization to pull my dog's teeth. Common courtesy would have been to pick up a phone and call me. If I had known that's how they conducted business, I would have never moved forward with their services! Regards, [redacted] ***

Tell us why Revdex.com Complaint ***Complainant was upset that small teeth were extracted during a dental procedure on 2/23/16.They were upset that these extractions were not documented on the consent form and were not included in the estimate, such that the fee was twice the
estimated cost of the procedure. With regard to the teeth that were extracted, they were all loose one-rooted teeth. To not extract these teeth would be below the standard of care that exists currently in veterinary medicine. Situations such as these are left to the discretion of the doctor performing the dental procedure.Doctors at our practice are instructed to inform owners that prior to sedation, it is impossible to determine if teeth are diseased or loose and therefore extractions cannot be predicted prior to the day of the procedure. This is why the extractions were not included in the estimate or on the consent form. The consent form does state that the client authorized “the staff at Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital to hospitalize my pet, administer vaccinations, medications, tests, surgical procedures, and treatments that the doctor(s) and/or their associates deem necessary for health, safety, or well-being to my pet while under their care and supervision.” The teeth were removed with such ease that the attending doctor removed all charges related to the extractions. One detail that the complainant omitted from their recollection of the events that transpired on 2/23/16, was that such a scene was created that staff felt unsafe and had to call the police to come in and interveneThis is not a routine occurrence in our profession, and it is the first time that this has been necessary under the current ownership of Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital. We strive for excellent medical care at reasonable prices, and while this client may have been unprepared for the dental extractions, they were medically necessary, and did not justify the scene that was created on that day. here
