Children's Center for Discovery Reviews (2)

April 24, 2015I am writing in regard to your complaint correspondence letter received in our office on April 20, 2015 and appreciate the opportunity to respond.I am aware of the two incidents that occurred on the dates given by the family. The staff notify the directors of any occurrences pertaining...

to the children. The directors observe the injured child, an Incident Report is written and presented to the family for notification and acknowledgement per their signature and observation. This child was in attendance in our Crawling Infant room. At this stage of development, all the children are more active physically in exploring their environment and each other. Understandingly, we have had similar incidents involving children of like ages and stages. Our center maintains the Maryland Childcare ratios of 3:1..one teacher per every three children with no more than six in a group. Our teachers do a wonderful job with each child in their care, but attending each individual child’s needs still gives opportunity for the children to interact independently and peer play, sometimes resulting in an injury. It is always unfortunate to have any child get hurt or receive any injury or have any accident during play, and the staff and directors are very compassionate to any of mishaps. To address the incident which involved the child getting bit. This of course did occur and the same procedures were followed as stated above. At the time of the bite, the child did not show any evidence of injury...i.e. marks, bruising, broken skin leading the teacher to resolve that she got to the child before any injury could occur. It was not until later in the day when red marking on his nose revealed itself and was observed by the teacher. The skin was not broken and no swelling was present. This information was documented on the Incident Report and was given to the family at short time later. Upon pick up, the teacher had conversation with the family about the incident. The mother did express her husband would be unhappy about this. The mother wanted the teacher to identify the biting child, but per policy our company does not reveal this information. The mother also wanted to know what the teachers were doing at the time of the biting and the teachers responded that they were caring for the needs of other children in the room. This of course was an unfortunate incident for the child and the family and we are sorry for their negative experience. I stated to the mother that this could happen at any other facility because of the age and stage of the child. Our center strives for the best possibly care for each family and child in our care and will continue to maintain the excellent quality of service given to all enrolled. In response to the refund of any monies requested, we decline this request. The company offers a contract at time of enrollment which outlines our policies on withdrawal or refunds.Again, thank you for allowing our center to respond and perhaps shed more insight on the letter presented to your company.Sincerely ,Bonnie H Director of Operations
