state safety inspection were performed prior to the new brake components’ installation. The question of whether or not the parking brakes were holding post replacement and prior to the inspection cannot be determined by the findings of the inspector performing the inspection for the second time. The only set standard by the [redacted] for the parking brake is that it holds the vehicle while it is placed in a forward gear and does not specify whether or not any load be applied by the powerplant of the vehicle, however if an inspector decides to do this, it is a matter of preference and opinion. The only way that an inspection is performed illegally and negligently is if the inspector either does not check the parking brake or checks the parking brake, determines it is bad and passes it anyways, neither of which is verifiable unless it is witnessed in the act. Until then it is assumed under penalty of legal action by a strictly governed state agency that all inspectors correctly perform all inspections correctly and within the guidelines set forth by the state. The replacement of all the brake components was performed by a technician well versed in the operation and maintenance of brake systems. When the rear brakes were installed, which is also the unit that serves as the holding mechanism of the parking brake system, it was preformed to the standard that most technicians preforming brake work would follow. This action involves the installation of the brake drum onto the brake shoes, checking for drag, removing the brake drum, adjusting the adjustment star and repeating until a slight drag is felt on the hub. After the installation was completed, all vehicles are test driven to burnish the pads to the stopping surface and checking all operational components for proper operation to include the parking brake. Adjustment of the rear brakes post installation is required by the owner of the vehicle by applying the parking brake every time the vehicle is placed in Park. Failure to do so may cause the parking brake to not fully engage when applied. All of our repairs come with a 24 Month, 24,000-mile nationwide warranty. However, being within the 25-mile radius of the shop, any and all post repair concerns should have been and would have been handled here with no questions asked. Going to a repair shop within the 25-mile radius is grounds for voiding all warranties. As far as the matter with the vehicle information being incorrect on the state inspection, it can only be stated that as humans, we are prone to human error. This being said, however, we made multiple attempts to contact Mrs. [redacted], in order to resolve the issue, only to receive a reply stating she will no longer engage in anymore conversation with our facility and that any further communication would have to be mediated through the Revdex.com. Therefore, since she was unable to provide us with any information proving that she did in fact receive further mechanical repair to correct any issues that may or may not be at the fault of CARS or the parts provided, it is in our best opinion to hold to our procedures being completed as required and the labor for work performed cannot be reimbursed, especially since the chief compliant is for the parking brake being out of adjustment, which is about a $45 charge. We are, however, willing to reimburse the $25.50 for the clerical error made on the inspection report as a gesture of understanding to Mrs. [redacted]’s frustration and accept responsibility for this.
