Complaint[redacted] replaced a heat pump with an air conditioner and when the unit did not provide heat he lied about claiming the unit had been repaired. [redacted] is an independent contractor who replaced 3 of 4 heat pump/ac units and air handlers in my beachfront duplex located on [redacted] from 2009 through 2012. He claimed to provide a 10 year warranty on all parts and labor. Mr. [redacted] replaced the the last (4th) unit with an AC only compressor in late summer of 2012. We received notice from renters during the Fall (thanksgiving) that the unit was not providing heat. Mr. [redacted] was informed and he claimed that he sent a repair man and fixed the unit. Shortly after I observed that no work had been done and the unit was not working. After repeated attempts to contract [redacted], he finally visited the house in March of 2013 and claimed he repaired the unit. My next visit confirmed that no work had been performed. Once the warm weather set in, renters reported the AC was not working. We used another contractor to replace the old unit at a cost (mostly labor as the unit was under warranty) of about $1000. At that point, I was resigned to just using competent and accredited contractors and did not bother trying to communicate with [redacted]. However, recently as the cold weather set in, renters reported no heat being provided. Th new contractor expalined that a heat pump was not installed, just an AC unit. The house is a duple with 4 heat pump units, and [redacted] claimed to have replaced the last unit with a heat pump. [redacted] basically charged exorbitant rates, claiming he would provide free labor for 10 years. Once all 4 units were replaced, he basically became unavailable as there was no clear additional financial incentive to service his client. I now have to pay an additional $500. to upgrade the resistance heating capability of the unit as well as incurring the high costs of resistance heating for the life of this new unit. Mr. [redacted] has failed to respond to any communication attempts.Desired SettlementThe total cost of the last installation plus additional costs payed to the new contractor for a total of $5000.
