Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Sorry, for the delay in responding to your generous reopening of this case My contention is that being straight-forward and up front with people is the best step for any business to take, I have a small business and try to follow that philosophy every day Now, through Angies List, I purchased hours of labor @ $599.00, for the purpose of having two small rooms painted and some other task performed If I had just wanted to have any two rooms painted, I could have obtained that from: $359- $ I had used this company once before and the handyman was familiar with the work that I wanted done before coming to my house Prior, to engaging the services of Chinnok, I had paid to have the wallpaper removed from the Bath, as I considered that a separate issue I noted that this was added as a service perform, which is just not true Arriving at my home, I pointed out the walls that need simple repair before paintingI also told him that they required two coats My big question is, if the company has a policy that simple repairs require hours in order to do a decent job THEN WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS OR REFUNDED? Certainly, before doing the job.? We are very sorry to hear that you did not like our servicesI think you miss understood our agreementWhen our handyman arrived on October 9th you had requested the removal of wall paper and some paintingAfter completing the above requested tasks we received your feedback on October 10thWe
spoke with our handyman immediately preceding your feedback and based on the details provided by our handyman, your walls require a lot preparation, the photos you emailed validated thisPer the discussion you had with the handyman and our owner, large patches take time to do correctlyMost caulking/filler takes hours to dry in order to sand make a smooth surfaceAdditional coats that take hours to dry are needed on wall conditions like yours
Our handyman was trying to get what you wanted done in the amount of time you providedProper wall repair and painting these areas is for sure more than an hour dayOur handyman did not have the necessary items to complete a large patch repair, as you originally requested wall paper removal and painting, not wall board repair
After your review, you sent an email stating that you previously had “one painter come out for $3.69” who could complete your requestsAt the end of the day, our handyman completed exactly what you requested, after providing you with the risks of not taking the additional time recommended to complete the job properly
Our reputation with the Revdex.com and Angie’s List customers comes with very high positive ratings and the rating provided by you is not who we are as a company
We appreciate you sharing your experience

Ms*** was scheduled to have work performed on May 12th, starting at 9:amThe work she requested was as follows: seal off a space outside of the chimney and the replacement of a baseboard that was water damaged by another vendorUpon our handyman arriving to provide Ms***’s requested
services, her husband stated that they already had another vendor complete the work and no longer needed our servicesAt this time our handyman told Ms***’s husband that they would be billed a cancellation feeOur handyman did provide an estimate for exterior painting on May 12th, to Ms***’s husband while at the home
Ms*** scheduled services to be completed and did not provide a hour cancellation noticeOnce she received an invoice for the cancellation, Ms*** called our office upset that she had scheduled for an onsite consultation, not to have services performedDuring this conversation Ms*** began debating with office staff about estimates and the respective cost of an estimateIt was explained to Ms*** on three separate occasions that she was not being charged for an estimate, she was being billed for a cancellation chargeMs*** was also provided with information about our estimates and onsite consultations
As a company we provide free estimates via telephone for services that are being requested through our maintenance divisionA free estimate will be provided via telephone for our handyman services division customers, however, if a customer wants a specific amount of time or an in depth description of the scope of work to be performed, we will provide an onsite consultation at the request of the customerThis service is charged at $for hour of time for our handyman to evaluate and discuss specific project detailsThis process was explained to Ms*** and the pricing provided to her each time she called our office
The issue here has nothing to do with a consult or an estimateMs*** made an appointment with our company, we met our end of the deal and provided a skilled handyman to perform the work she requestedWe were denied the opportunity to complete this service without advance noticeThis cancellation charge is reasonable for the type of service appointment that was cancelledOur company has a two hour minimum of $250, which covers two hours of time, then $per hour afterThe fee being charged is to re-cooperate the cost of fuel, wages we paid out and loss of revenue for her appointment in the amount of $440, as Ms***’s appointment was a four hour block of time
To this date Ms*** has an outstanding balance on her account with our company
Sincerely,
Nicole V***, Office Manager

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:
Sorry, for the delay in responding to your generous reopening of this case.
My contention is that being straight-forward and up front with people is the best step for any business to take, I have a small business and try to follow that philosophy every day
Now, through Angies List, I purchased 8 hours of labor @ $599.00,  for the purpose of having two small rooms painted and some other task performed.   If I had just wanted to have any two rooms painted, I could have obtained that from: $359- $400.
I had used this company once before and the handyman was familiar with the work that I wanted done before coming to my house.  Prior, to engaging the services of Chinnok, I had paid to have the wallpaper removed from the Bath, as I considered that a separate issue.  I noted that this was added as a service perform, which is just not true.
Arriving at my home, I pointed out the walls that need simple repair before painting. I also told him that they required two coats.   My big question is, if the company has a policy that simple repairs require 24 hours in order to do a decent job.  THEN WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS OR REFUNDED?  Certainly, before doing the job.?
Instead, they simply painted over the repair areas, using only one coat, otherwise, I would not be communicating with you.
I have a bath with several dents and rough spots.  The color is not what I wanted.  The kitchen is spotty.  I am out of $599.99 and it looks like a kid did the painting.
Noel C[redacted], Supervisor at Angies List tried to work with Chinook Services to no avail.  She pointed out to me my option of contacting you and the Attorney General Office for the inept job that was done.  I should receive a full refund.
Warm regards,
[redacted]Sincerely,[redacted]

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:If the company had informed me in advance that there was a need to drill an anchoring system into my roof, I would not have scheduled the service. Two other companies quoted the same service and no anchoring system was required. If they were concerned about meeting OSHA standards, then the company should be inspecting job sites in advance and discussing safety requirements and additional costs with the customer, not generalizing "Please note the price is subject to change upon the arrival of our technicians.". In fact, the service person on the phone stated that the final price of the service would be closer to $400 rather than the $500 that is on the estimate. This is a deceptive business practice to increase the cost on the day of service to charge for a temporary piece of equipment to perform their job.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

My technicians notified Ms. [redacted] that her home was not equipped with a roof anchor which would allow them to safely perform their job. Our company offered to provide her with a temporary anchor for $85 dollars (installation and removal) or a permanent anchor for $100 (labor to install and the cost...

of the anchor). At the time Ms. [redacted]'s service was scheduled she was informed verbally and in writing that her price was a phone quote. In addition, she was notified that if there were any changes in price that she would be notified prior to our services being performed. We were more than happy to accommodate the concerns Ms. [redacted] expressed to our technicians with regard to the additional unforeseen charge for the roof anchor by providing a temporary anchor installation at no charge to her. At this point she chose to not have our technicians perform the services at her home. Many home owners are not aware of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules and requirements. We have a duty and responsibility to ensure our employees are safe while working on commercial and residential properties. We take pride in our services and that our employees are performing their duties legally and safely. We should not apologize for doing the right thing by our customers and employees.
