Chiro 1st Chiropractic

I started going to Chiro 1st Chiropractic in Indianapolis at 10th and German Church to see Dr. S after a car accident and found the place and everyone to be lovely. I was told they work with patients who cannot afford the care they need, which seemed like a place I would like to support. Little did I know that when you're told that every new patient gets to take home the equipment, so that they can have help at home, you're going to be charged $895 for a foam cervical unit and $941 for a TENS unit. I went on Amazon and was able to find a three pack of the same model of “TENS unit” devices and the same Foam cervical unit for less than $100. I offered to give them all these new devices to take those charges off my bill, which they declined.
I was told from the beginning that everything was being covered by insurance, which was a lie. I checked in monthly asking them if my insurance was covering everything and was always told I was completely fine.
I was finally called by my insurance to let me know that they weren't covering anything anymore because the limit had been reached and was told that my bill was already over $6,000 and that I would have to pay out-of-pocket. I was, of course, completely shocked to hear this, having been lied to the whole time saying it was covered.
I then spoke with Julian and Brittany about my bill. I had been told from the beginning that when insurance is not covering the bill anymore, you go on a special plan that costs a lot less. They never put me on this plan. I was the one that spoke up saying, "Hey they're not covering anything anymore when do I go on that special plan?" And they said they could start it that day.
I asked if they could retroactively correct my bill back to when insurance was not covering anymore, since that is what I was told would be done, and they declined to do that as well. However, they did keep pushing me to get a lawyer involved to basically sue my insurance company to get more than enough money to pay the bill…and of course there is a lawyer that they personally use and had highly recommended for me to use many times.
I have since reached out to them to ask if there is anything they can do to decrease the bill that was over $18,000. My insurance covered just under $9000 of that. All they would do for me was take off the $895 for the foam unit, plus a bit more. Out of the over $18,000 they were only willing to take off just over $2,800, I told them that didn’t seem enough since they had told me I would be on a special plan once insurance stopped covering. Brittney mentioned that she didn't know how much my insurance would cover. I reminded her that I had been asked the amount and shared had with her what it was. So they knew and still charged way past that amount. The monthly charge for the special plan amount would have decreased to roughly $150 per month. Instead, for the 8 months I was there, I was basically charged $2250 per month. When you compare what they said they would charge for the special plan vs what was charged, it’s obvious they could have decreased the bill more.
My insurance company told me that they have never seen anyone ever be charged this amount by a chiropractor. I was only there for 8 months.
When Julian spoke on the phone with me all he did was tear me down and was very rude. So basically, in my opinion they went from a company that is loving and kind and wanting to help people, to a company that overcharges some patients so they can charge less to others. I feel as if was used basically to pay other people's bills.
I suggest that you don't go here and find a chiropractor that actually cares about you as a person and not just the dollar bills you bring them. Their lack of integrity to keep their word and do the right thing is what prevents me from recommending this practice to anyone and warn those who are using this practice now.
