Told me my crank shaft was broken and I needed a new engine. I took car to another mechanic and paid $100 to find out it wasn't broken. On May 19 2014, I had my vehicle towed to Chris Leith and asked them to find out what's wrong with it. I asked for a diagnosis. I did not specify that I wanted a $49 diagnosis, I just said that I wanted them to find out what was wrong. [redacted] told me with 100 percent certainty that the crank shaft was broken in half and that the only solution was to buy a used engine for $5,300 including labor. He said that they wouldn't tell me that I needed a new engine if they weren't 100 percent certain.I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion and paid $100 to have it diagnosed again. He told me that it definitely was not the crank shaft that the compression was good and all cylinders were firing. Because of Chris Leith's misdiagnoses, a month was wasted trying to figure out the real problem.I took it back to Chris Leith and told them that their diagnosis and recommendation for a new engine was wrong and a borderline attempt to defraud, and that I'd like for them to perform a proper diagnosis this time. They called me and told me that in order for them to continue to diagnose it, I need to pay an additional $550, just for the diagnosis. I refuse to do this because they already misdiagnosed it once and lied to me by telling me it was definitely the crank shaft and that I needed a new engine. They said they would refund the original $49 diagnosis fee, but I am asking them that they refund the $100 diagnosis fee from the second mechanic as well, and they refuse to do so. If it wasn't for their misdiagnosis and erroneous claim that I needed a new engine due to a broken crank shaft, I wouldn't have paid an additional $100 at a new mechanic to have their faulty diagnosis diagnosed. I can't imagine how I would feel if I took Chris Leith's word that the crank shaft was broken and paid them $3,500 for a new engine. I imagine many people would trust their initial diagnosis and go ahead and pay for it.Desired SettlementI am seeking either 1) a proper diagnosis performed for free (since that's what I initially paid them to do and I have wasted $149 and nearly two months because of their misdiagnoses and faulty recommendation) or 2) A refund of the initial $49 Chris Leith diagnosis fee along with $100 for the second mechanic's diagnosis fee.Business Response As stated in our phone conversation with Mr. [redacted], 99% of all diagnosis are covered and accurately completed with a $49 diagnosis. His particular problem is obviously more involved and required partial tear down of the engine. We regret we misunderstood Mr. [redacted] and that his diagnosis had no cost limit as he stated in his complaint. Our company would never attempt to defraud or mislead anyone. We have built a very succesful business from building trusting relationships with our customers. We've offered to refund Mr. [redacted] the money he's paid us as well as the tow bill from the shop he took it to. Based on his complaint, we will be happy to simply give Mr. [redacted] the requested total amount $149, which should be roughly the same amout as what we were thinking to begin with. Ultimately we would like the opportunity to complete the deeper diagnosis and repair, this would help him correct his issue with his vehicle and get him back on the road, and earn Mr. [redacted]'s trust.Consumer Response Chris Leith satisfied my request for a $149 refund.

I was in search of a new vehicle. I found the one I was looking for at Chris leith Dodge. I spokewith the salesman mr. [redacted]. I was quoted a purchase price of $47,199.00 for that vehicle. which was the [redacted]. plus $1,080.00 for the cover for the bed.I explained to mr. [redacted] that I had a vehicle to trade in.at this point he went to speak withhis manager. and he came back with a figure of $16,000.00. which I refused to take & after alot of back & forth arguing he came up with the figure I had told I would accept. & the only figure I would accept. so on that agreement he went back and drew up the papers. (when I say he I am referring to the manager. mr. [redacted] is no longer in the picture)so he came back & explained everything really fast but kept insisting I take the vehicle home that same day because someone else might come along & want to buy it. but I refused.instead I went home & went over the papers and what I found was he had given me the $2,000 extra trade in,but added it on to the purchase price.which brought the price up to $49,199.00plus $1,080.00 & all the extra separately from tho purchase price. once I explained to himthat I did not like the way things were adding up. & I would appreciate my $500.00 depositback. he said they can't give me back my deposit, but I can come down & he can explaineverything & I can use it toward the purchase of another vehicle from that dealership.I could understand if I had just for no reason just walked away from the deal. I would know better than to try & get a deposit back. but I did not walk away he played with the numbers& that is the only reason I did not buy the vehicle & for that reason I want him to return my deposit mailed back to me. I don't want to go back to that place because I don't want to hear some explanation of how the figures were calculated. my calculation is he gave me $2,000.00 more on the trade in. but then the purchase price went up $2,000.00 exactly to the penny.Desired SettlementI want my deposit put back in my account.Business Response There is a very simple explanation to Mr. [redacted] issue. Sales Manager, [redacted] and Sales Person, [redacted] have had multiple conversations with Mr. [redacted] regarding the calculation of his bill of sale. The math difference of $2000 is not in the trade, it's in the rebate. The rebate amount must be taxed by law so it's added at the selling price and credited back in the down payment section. The amount [redacted] allowed for Mr. [redacted] trade in is correct. If Mr. [redacted] wants to cancel his agreement to purchase with us due to his mis-understanding it, we have absolutely no problem with that. As [redacted] indicated to Mr. [redacted], we will gladly refund his deposit and credit it back to his credit card. We will need for him to go to Chris Leith Dodge sales desk with his credit card so we can run a credit with his card though our credit card machine. That's the only reason we need for him to return to our dealership. I regret Mr. [redacted] has confusion with the terms of this sale. We've built thousands of great relationships and we work hard to build these great long lasting relationships with our customers by doing the right thing every day.
