Unsatisfied Review for Christ Powered Construction
I contacted Christ Powered Construction to fix some work other people messed up, replace the siding, fascia & soffit on our house & wellhouse, fix a few odds & ends & paint both buildings. They gave me an estimate for a certain amount. But during all the work, they kept adding prices that were not reasonable compared to what was done.

They talked me into replacing the siding with wood that "would be just as good as siding if not better" since they "couldn't find the same siding that was on the house in a 50-mile radius." They also claimed, "That company doesn't make it anymore." Since I knew, I told them where they could order the same siding & how much it would cost. It was within the 50-mile radius they set. They claimed they would check up on that but kept putting me off every time I asked about it. Now we know the "siding" they chose to use & their work was inferior because the rain got in under it, warped it & caused it to ripple.

We still have old siding that needed to be replaced instead of spackled/puttied/whatever they did/didn't do to it. It is crumbling away worse than before & allowing more moisture & damaging bugs into the bones of the house. Our house was in better condition before they "fixed" it.

The wood they used for siding does not meet end-to-end. They caulked the gaps & made it look nice when they were "done." But now the caulking all around the house has shrunk & cracked which lets in even more moisture & more damaging bugs. They may have used inferior caulk. I don't know about that. But I do know that they didn't use enough caulk even on the places that weren't big gaps. Our front room wall is bowed now because of the moisture the inferior work let in. That bow is directly over an electrical outlet. I am highly concerned about the electricity behind that wall!

The metal corners that run vertically on the 4 sides of our house were not replaced. Some are still mangled.

They did not fix the hole in the concrete at the base of our wellhouse at all. There's also a wooden board that is exposed to the elements now, right under the threshold that is rotting. Plus, there's still another fairly large strip that he claimed he would come back & paint but never did. He said he was in a hurry to get to another contracting job they were already a few days late for because of our contracting job.

We had to pick up the house paint at the paint store ourselves (I don't mind helping out when I'm needed) & got overcharged even though the price was prearranged between Christ Powered Construction & the paint store. (At least that's what CPC told us when questioned about the quoted price.) In fact, there were several things that were severely overcharged by the time it was all said & done. (I understand that prices can fluctuate. But they do NOT fluctuate this badly.)

The paint job was fuzzy where the siding meets the concrete at the bottom of the house. So they talked me into letting them paint the concrete too. Which is fine. BUT... the paint is peeling off. It hasn't been on there long enough to peel off concrete that's never been painted before.

They were supposed to scrape the old paint off the things they weren't replacing. They did. They left a big mess for me to clean up.

Their paint job is peeling off at various different places on our house now.

We have a big crack in the wood above a window.

They did not scrape the shutters before painting. You can see all the cracks in the old paint underneath. (It looks pretty. But I can't help wondering if the new paint is going to crack on top of the old. That is unacceptable.)

They used their fingers to pick off, instead of cutting off, my foam gap sealer. It looks bad & uneven now. I'm going to have to sand it down instead of using a serrated edged knife like I originally planned to trim the excess.

They removed my work I just did to one of my windows & caulked a board into the gap. Now I cannot shut my window. Plus, there is caulk smeared on the window.

I did find several places on both buildings that were not painted & were not fixed. Some of the places that were replaced & not painted are now rotting away. The siding that wasn't painted right is down low where you can't see they didn't paint the bottom edges without being that low too.

I found that my spigot is broke now. They painted over it & made the whole thing the same color as the house. I figured they'd cover it with tape when they painted to leave it pretty & untouched. They did not.

They also painted over the TV cables & telephone wires on the house with the house paint. They did not paint under the cables & wires. We have lines running across our house, under the cables & wires, that show the old paint. Those cables & wires started sagging. So now the old paint lines are showing even more so.

CPC did not remove the vents under the eaves, nor did they cover them up before painting. They are painted the same color as the rest of the house with the paint threading at the edges. It does not look very good.

A huge mess of caulk, old paint, nails & other metals they used was left behind. He sent 1 new guy walking around my house, without a trash bag or a rolling magnet, to pick up "all the big pieces." He came back with only 1 handful to throw away. There was a much bigger mess than only 1 hand can hold. When I got done cleaning up after them, I had huge strips of caulk, expanding foam, long staples, nails, pieces of tar paper & other garbage. There were even a few cigarette butts. As thorough a job as I did on cleaning up, I'm still finding odds & ends everywhere.

The super thin layer of paint on our stair rails is so thin that it flakes off very easily.

Some of the new screws on the railings were not painted to look the same color as the rails.

When they removed the old railings, they cut off the heads of the screws holding the railings onto the porch instead of removing them or even cutting them flush with the porch. There are about 1-2 inches of sharp metal pieces that are poking out of my porch now just waiting to cut someone. I will have to remove those the hard way now.

The ends of the railings weren't sealed right. On the ends facing the house, there's some sort of loose-fitting gel that bugs like wasps & spiders can burrow into & make a home there. I even had to seal up one of the holes that was left undone.

There are make-shift caps on the ends of the rails that face out where people can see them have been cut on the bottoms so they could fit them on. I grabbed the railing while walking up the stairs & got cut.

The garage door looks sloppy where they spackled & painted. They did not tape off anything on the door. They admitted they had armature help paint it. You can see brush strokes & they do not run in a uniform direction. They did not scrape the excess paint from the windows.

They cussed & talked about inappropriate things, even in our presence, several times.

When they were talked to about making things right, they came up with conversations I did not have with them about how I supposedly wanted things the way they did it & that they told me the siding would be a temporary fix & it would mess up on us. We never had those conversations they said we did. I hired them to fix the siding & other things. I did not hire them to half-way fix something just so I would have to hire someone else to fix their work later. CPC was, in part, hired to be fixing another contractor's work instead of messing up my house even further.

Their daughter also cut off our kitten's whiskers with their fishing line clippers. I don't know what else she did, but all of our pets ran away from her & would not come out until after she left.

We hired them because they represented themselves to be Christians. We trusted them with our home. We paid them several thousands of dollars to fix our home. It was in better shape before they worked on it. Now we will have to hire someone else to fix the work they did that I cannot fix myself. We will not be doing business with them again. We hope this review will prevent others from making the same horrible mistake we did.

***Document Attached***
This is in response to the letter sent by the lawyer for Christ Powered ConstructionWe hired this company after finding
them on the internetWe were impressed with their willingness to communicate and their apparent knowledge of remodelingWe asked for references and received glowing recommendationsThey gave us a quote for materials and laborWe gave them deposits without questionThey started the job and we left town the next dayThey had done much of the removal of wall and ceiling in sunroom and had placed some of the shiplap by the time we returned days laterThe shiplap staining looked a little irregular but acceptableThey later applied more stain and polyurethane, getting a fair amount of the floorThe staining should have been done properly prior to installation and, after researching the web, found that the wood should have been conditioned but wasn'tThey told us they were quoted the wrong cost for the windows because we needed a color, not whiteWe agreed to the extra cost when *** offered to split costThen we were told the company made a mistake in the order for the windows in height and widthThe windows are 78xso we are not sure exactly what kind of error the company made*** said he would pay for the original order since he could use it for another projectThe outlets were installed and we did ask to put in outlets instead of Then they told us they ordered the parts for the screendeck on the computer but the computer printed out the wrong order to the company and the wrong items were sentRed flag about their attention to detailThe drywall was placed in the sunroom and painted prior to the placement of the trimWall space is less than square feet with no trim to paint aroundWe noticed that they kept applying more spackling after the painting was done but we still felt they knew what they were doingWe starting questioning the appearance of the drywall since it didn't meet the wood on both corners of the roomThey kept saying the work would be perfect when done and they had a plan to finish it nicelyThe conversation about them telling us that the brick mold removal would result in the new trim not being even with the drywall is not recalled by either my husband or meWe did not refuse to pay to have it correctedIt was never discussed and we should not have to pay to have them do something right after they did it wrong, anywayIn regard to the HVAC, *** DID NOT tell us he was not comfortable doing itHe did say we could call a HVAC specialist but he said he could do itHe told us we would have a box 4, possibly 6, inches from the ceilingIt is not the size of the box (14x14) that we object toIt was made of drywall and not lined or insulatedI thought he would connect the ductwork for the sunroom from the old ductwork with metal fittingsThe way it is, there would be mold developing due to moisture as well as no direct ductwork from old ductwork to that for sunroomAt this point, I texted *** and told him we did not think the HVAC would work and that we were not satisfied with some of the other work but had given them the benefit of the doubt until this timeAlso, he had started the screening for our deck and the screen had a hole in it when he set it up and the spline wasn't holding the screen in placeHe was using the wrong type of splineWhenever we questioned something, they kept reassuring us that it would be "perfect" when doneBy the time *** delivered the window days later, I told him that we had consulted with a HVAC company and that the way he was doing the work was wrong and he said he had talked to specialists and they said it would workNeither saw our roomsWe also talked to a more experienced handyman who said the way they intended to install the windows without removing the siding was incorrectHe should have ordered new windows not replacement windows since he enlarged the openingThe seams on the walls on the drywall showed and there were brushmarks and roller marks*** said it just needed another coat of paint*** said we should probably "part ways" because he didn't think we would ever be satisfiedWe said we would pay the balance of the contract after we paid to have the work done correctlyWe asked for an itemization of chargesWe were sent a explanation of labor chargesThe charge for installing outlets, without drywall in place, was $Our electrician said it shouldn't be any more than $250, including trip or trips he would have to make to installThere was very little debris but there was a charge of $Painting $We have quote to have room textured and painted for $This was new drywall and, from research, I now know it should have been primed prior to paintingNot doneWe also have to pay $to have the holes in the wall from the attempted HVAC repairedHe also cut a support beam under the sunroom*** also poked a hole in the dining area wall when putting in the outlets, which he attempted to repair but is still quite noticeableEven if the sunroom was not square, an experienced drywaller could have made it look rightThe amount of furniture moved may be correct but it was moved from one room to adjacent room with my husband helpingWe then had to go pick up the door that we were told cost $It was $2210.40, with tax*** miscalculated the number of balusters needed for deck, so we bought more at a cost of $eachHe also left us inch balusters instead of the inch ones neededThey quoted $eachWe looked up several other items and found they charged us more than price charged by sellerI really don't know which law they thought they were using when they decided to charge the sales tax for Kimberling CityThe tax rate for Lampe is on the internet and we live outside of LampeWe were also informed by the Stone County Clerk that items cannot be resold for more than a contractor paid for them unless the company has a merchant permit in Stone County, which they do not haveWe did not allow them to finish job because they had not done satisfactory work and didn't want them to do the rest of the job not to our satisfactionDue to our faith in the honesty and fairness of others, we did not discuss the cost of "add-ons" but felt we would be charged fairly, not at an inflated rateAlso, the charges for labor completed was high (pieces of trim around bedroom door for $200) but the work not completed is inexpensive ($to install french doors or $to install HVAC)We realize the Revdex.com cannot take action for us or them but we feel we have a legitimate concernThis is not a complete list of our concerns but does give an idea of our experience with this company
