Review: Clearly there were a multitude of communications issues from me to the Contractor (and his estimator). I did not want the 50 year roof. The estimator and I removed this expense ($1,126.16) from the original contract. That brought the cost of the original contract to $5,988.98. The contractor stated that it took 50% down payment to start, which is why I wrote a deposit check for $2,994.49, which was subsequently cashed. I wanted a cost to replace the sheeting up front.The contractor told me it would be $2.50 per square foot. I clearly made the mistake of not making sure that was in the original contract. I told the estimator that if it needed complete replacing, to do it. Then after the installer had the new shingles already on half of the roof he told me that they probably should have replaced all the sheeting. I was expecting to receive an invoice for a little over $3000. The final invoice was $5,078.40, and included the 50 year roof option, which was subtracted from the original contract. The additions were to include a couple of roof vents, (why the estimator did not include those originally is beyond my comprehension), as well as a minor amount of sheeting replacement (which I did not see on the final bill). I am very disappointed in the manner in which this contractor has conducted business with me. I am also disappointing in myself for allowing changes in the contract that were not in writing, with prices up front. Since approximately eight months had passed since the original contract was signed (9/10/12) and the work started on 5/13/13, the contractor and I should have gone over it before they even started ripping off the old roof just to make sure we were both on the same page. Since I can only attach one document, I will attach a photo copy of the original contract and not the final invoice that I received in the mail August 1st 2013.Desired Settlement: Reply in writing from the contractor.
