Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because:Sincerely,*** ***
According to SCRA: (1) Military ordersThe term "military orders", with respect to a servicemember, means official military orders, or any notification, certification, or verification from the servicemember’s commanding officer, with respect to the servicemember’s current or future military duty status
Told the front desk when signing lease that I was retiring in Nov. and what I needed to break lease if needed. Was told by front desk staff all I needed was a copy of my "military orders". Please for future misunderstandings that it is expressed that only PCS and Deployment orders are the only acceptable forms of military orders accepted to break a lease.
To close loop wife received email stating House has been rented and no further payment is required. FYI when Active duty retire from Military service the Gov't will relocate service member to any location in the CONUS within year of retirement

[redacted] and [redacted] signed a lease and moved into [redacted]. on 8/15/2015.  They paid a security deposit of $1300. The lease that they signed was for one year, not to expire until 7/31/2016.  On 12/15/2015, the [redacted] delivered to our office a signed "Notice To Break...

Lease" form stating that they would be breaking their lease and moving out of the house on or before January 1, 2016.  The lease that they signed is very specific as to the terms for breaking a lease.  The [redacted] would need to continue to pay rent until a new renter is found to take over their lease.  The [redacted] had a choice as to finding a new renter...they could find a renter or have Chuckanut Property Mgmt. do so.  They chose to have Chuckanut find a renter. There is also a fee for the break lease and finding a new renter. The [redacted] did pay their rent for January.
The [redacted] are claiming that being in the military allows them to break a lease without penalty.  The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, also known as the SCRA, allows active military personnel to break a lease without penalty if they receive a PCS, a Permanent Change of Station.  Mr. [redacted] retired from the military effective October 31, 2015.  He was not active military when he broke the lease in December so the terms of the SCRA don't pertain in this case.  Therefore the [redacted] are held to the original terms of the lease.
