On or about September 24, 2013 Mr. [redacted] brought a 1984 Chevrolet pickup in for repairs. Mr. [redacted] complained of low power up hills and said mileage was low. He told us the carburetor was 2 years old from Summit racing. He had informed [redacted] (the service writer) that the last two shops had...

mistreated him and said if we didn’t fix the truck, he wouldn’t come back and let us correct any problems. With that in mind we began looking at the vehicle. It was obvious it had not been driven much recently. We scoped the engine to check for poor performance. We found ignition and fuel issues. The mechanical advance in the distributor was not functioning and carburetor would not adjust. After inspecting the carburetor we found substantial debris inside. We spoke to Mr. [redacted] and told him about the needed repairs and informed him the fuel tanks appeared to be contaminated with rust and debris. Mr. [redacted] said he wanted to order tanks and sending units. We rebuilt the carburetor and distributor (we did not replace either item). The carburetor was filthy and distributor was worn enough we had to replace the main shaft. We were not able to drive the truck until the special order fuel tanks arrived. After the tanks arrived we installed the tanks and made the truck run. The old units were very rusty inside. While running the engine, material came out of the exhaust that we saved and showed to Mr. [redacted]. It appeared to be muffler packing material. There was noise coming from the muffler on that same side of the truck. Mr. [redacted] said the mufflers were new and he would get the muffler replaced under warranty. Because of the exhaust we did not drive the truck very far. After taking the truck Mr. [redacted] returned with a noise in the exhaust even after the muffler replaced. The noise was a legitimate concern. We did our best to address his concerns but he was very angry and communication was difficult. After he left there was no further communication and we did not know he still had an issue. We did not replace Mr. [redacted]’s carburetor, we rebuilt his existing unit so there is nothing to return to him. The fuel tanks were disposed of after the truck was picked up.The 3375.76 Mr. [redacted] spent were legitimate charges. A refund of 100% would be unfair. The labor to remove shields and install his fuel tanks and senders alone was substantial. We do believe we have some responsibility if he needed additional work. I would like to see what repairs were done after he left.Chuck’s Speed and RV Center has been in business for 48 years with a spotless record of customer service and an A+ rating with the Revdex.com.. Our hope is to continue to exceed our customer’s expectations. We would like to make every attempt to make Mr. [redacted] happy.Thank You,[redacted] “Manager”Chuck’s Speed and RV Center

Review: Having received several positive referrals, I took my 1984 GMC truck to Chuck's Speed & RV Center (Chuck's), for tune-up and repair as needed to correct a lack of power condition. After weeks of analysis and repairs, including: 1. Removing, disassembling and overhauling a Rochester carburetor I had purchased new within the past year and replacing it with an old and worn-out carburetor without my consent or my carburetor being returned to me; B. Removing, disassembling, inspecting, adjusting the curve setting and reassembling the distributor; C. Replacing fuel tanks (Described as being rusted) and sending units with new tanks and sending units I furnished; D. Cleaning and rodding the radiator and replacing the water pump (Which I replaced myself recently and was neither clogged nor leaking before I drove the truck in to Chuck's for analysis and adjustment); Chucks's told me, in spite of an exhaust popping noise and backfiring, that the truck was in perfect running order and charged me $3,575.76, after taxes for the work they claimed to have done without any of the replaced parts (New carburetor etc.) being returned to me.

I have since taken the truck to another repair facility which replaced the carburetor, repaired and adjusted the distributor rerouted vacuum hoses to the vehicle's factory specifications and eliminated the power issues I had requested Chuck's to correct for a charge of about $1,400.Desired Settlement: I want the full cost of repairs Chuck's claims to have made and the parts, Chucks removed, returned to me and I want anyone considering having work done at Chuck's to be aware of my experiences.

I was having a problem with my RV. Chuck's Speed Center was recommended.

The staff was polite and professional. They spent a large amount of time attempting to find my problem. They kept me advised of their progress. After several hours, they could not find a problem and recommended taking the RV to a [redacted] transmission shop.

The bill was VERY reasonable the the time involved.

I would highly recommend this company.
