Rented an indoor storage unit. When we went to retrieve put belongings their were mice dropping gas all over them. We contacted the owner who agree to replace our things at a reasonable cost, our sectional sofa and new area rug where affected as well as numerous boxes of personal items. On June 20th we went to retrieve more things and their was antifreeze leaking from the ceiling which was now all over our couch as well as our entertainment stand and bedroom bureau. I contacted the owner again via text. She agreed to do whatever to fix situation and offered to clean our couch and rug or offer us [redacted] I explained half the cost of each item is what we wanted [redacted] for sectional and [redacted] for couch. I said I would speak to my husband and see if he wanted couch and rug cleaned or amount back. I contacted her the following day and said we wanted to have them clean it and we would take it back she said she put our couch and tug outside and it got rained on and ruined. I said then we want the cost of half the purchase price which is [redacted] total.she said no. I had paid for storage unit for the month of [redacted] so there was no reason to put those items outside. We are now out our furniture and she is only offering us [redacted] which the rug was [redacted] brand new and was a year old and couch was [redacted] brand new. We are only asking [redacted] which is half to help the cost of replacing items. I paid for the unit from [redacted] till [redacted] and paid on time. I had been to unit numerous times over this months. Renters insurance will not cover antifreeze leaking from the ceiling or mice droppings. I went within 15 minutes as I take this very seriously. I have a pest control company and they come to monitor the facility on a regular basis. I saw the droppings and asked if she had left her belongings in the garage or outside for any amount of time where mice could get in. I have over 180 other tenants and NO COMPLAINTS regarding mice. I met with the pest control company and they said that it looked impossible for the mice to get inside her unit from the hall and that walls are metal and they are not able to climb them. I asked [redacted] if she had renters insurance or homeowners insurance as recommended by this facility and clearly stated in her lease. she replied no so I offered to help compensate a reasonable amount, this is not policy but I offered anyway. tenant stated that she did not want the couch or the rug and I offered to pay someone to cart it away. She agreed and commented that she felt badly that I would have to pay for that as well but I agreed. I put the couch and rug out for pickup and the truck did not come and it rained. I offered to pay the amount of cleaning the couch which was [redacted] When [redacted] returned my text she stated that someone was going to pay her [redacted] to take the couch so I offered her [redacted] I left a check on my office door for three days in the amount of [redacted] and she did not take it. I have owned this business for 18 years and have never had a formal complaint our lease clearly states you need your own insurance and she failed to do so. I believe I was more than fair with the offer of [redacted] the couch did not appear to be only two years old and the rug was full of dog hair and needed cleaning. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)She failed to mention that there are gaps at the top of the unit and wooden beams with a large wire running down the side which clearly would be easy for mice to enter the premises. She also failed to mention the antifreeze that leaked from the ceiling above that ruined the rug and couch also. I also paid for that unit for the entire month of June which the owner cashed and then illegally removed our belongings from the unit and placed them outside when we still had several weeks left in the month of June. We never agreed to her removing our couch and rug and placing them outside as we had paid for the unit. And apparently the rug was stolen though she said the rug had to be cleaned which leads me to believe that the owner of the facility has taken possession of the rug because it was no longer there. We asked for half the cost to replace the two items and she said ok I'm a text which I provided. She cannot decide what our furniture is worth and second it was illegal to remove those items from the unit as it was paid for. And antifreeze on the couch and rug makes it hazardous to people and animals which we have 4 children and a dog. Her contract clearly states no hazardous materials yet our furniture was ruined by antifreeze which insurance will not cover on top of mouse droppings all over it as well. We wants half the cost of the items which is 750.00 plus a refund for unit as of June 23rd due to her removing g our belongings from the unit without our verbal or written consent. Her contract also states she requires a written notice to vacate premises which she never received from us either as we left our items there and paid for unit so we could resolve this issue with her
