The complainant and his family moved to our community within the last year so this was one of our first encounters with him for a larger scale projectMy wife and I have lived in our community for years providing great overnight lodging experiences for our customersI have served as president
of our local chamberThe accounts we have in the community are always paid on time and in fullWe appreciate what the Revdex.com represents and in regards to our lodging business we have been in good standing over these past years. When the contractor or in this case the complainant is hired he or she is not usually considered the customer as stated in this complaintSo I must say we were a little surprised when this matter was brought to the attention of the Revdex.com considering we are actually the complainant's customer and we are the ones questioning his invoice and are now possibly facing a bad mark against our business. We want to mention that of the four contractors on this sewer reconnection job three of them were paid in a timely fashion and paid in full because their invoices were received before the end of October as requestedThe complainant was informed of the reasoning for our need to review and pay all invoices before we left for the winter: My wife and I typically have only two months to get reacquainted with each other over the winter after working approximately straight months, days a week. The only conversation had with the complainant discussing "keeping costs low" was me offering my services to work alongside the complainant as his labor during the course of this day long project since I felt my years of experience in the construction trade would be more of a help than a hinderance.Because of the time constraints we were under the complainant said he wouldn't have time to put together a quoteI asked him if we did time and material what would his hourly rate be and what did he estimate the job would cost? The complainant stated his labor charge was $per hour and estimated the job should be around $labor and $material. The complainant mentioned in his statement to the Revdex.com with the added work the bill came to $but the complainant has seem to forgotten the receipt for $for materials purchased by me at the complainants request bringing the total to $This amount is 45% over his original estimate of $and this is why questions were raised. The complainant made a decision of where this reconnection to our updated septic system should startThe inspector the complainant is referring to said nothing to me regarding the re-piping of kitchen drainsOnly told the complainant in the inspector's exact words; "That area can't stay that way and you should've known better." We don't dispute there was extra material costs and labor involved in correcting this problem the inspector brought upWe paid the material cost listed in his invoice equaling $but when the complainant as the licensed plumber has to do something twice you shouldn't expect your customer to pay the additional laborThis is why we deducted a half hour from the hours the complainant was working on our property as listed in the detailed letter (please see photo A below) we sent to the complainant postmarked April 19, along with our check in the amount of $632.04A contractor hired on a time and material basis when asked should be able to offer the detailed explanation of his or her labor and materialsThe original invoice submitted to us by the complainant didn't offer this explanation (please see photo B below)Hoping to get a better explanation when we submitted our details (please see photo A below) as noted since I worked side-by-side with the plumber for the day he was on our propertyThe only thing we received was another invoice (please see photo C below) stating we still owed a balance and now added a 10% late fee on the remaining balance. On 5/31/I had a verbal exchange with the complainant at our local Mercantile and asked him what the additional labor costs were for and he said he didn't knowIt now seems the complainant may have shared with you what we were trying to find out from him all alongSome of the extra almost $extra in labor might have been for getting extra material and the preparation of an isometric drawing for the inspector. With the explanation now given we are willing to pay the complainant $($minus $for half hour for reconnection do over & minus $for 1/2% tax on labor)Regarding the complainant's addition of a 10% late fee we had a check with a dispute of the remaining balance post markedApril 19thbefore hisApril 21deadline and only the tax of 1/2% on materials the contractor paid for can be added to a bill.We apologize for the lengthy explanation but we wanted to be certain our side of this situation was heard and we would also like to state that the ultimate outcome of this project completed by the complainant was a job well done.Sincerely,*** ***Dor Cros Innon Washington Islandwww.dorcrosinn.comPhoto APhotoBPhoto CSent from my iPhoneClick here toReplyorForward***@dorcrosinn.comShow details
