I had an invited guest from Wisconsin staying with me for a month, beginning on May 20, 2013. He was recently divorced, and owed [redacted] Law Offices $1,900. Unbeknownst to me, my guest took/stole my credit card and called [redacted] and paid them $1,000. I did not learn of this until after my guest returned to [redacted], WI. I checked the balance of one of my credit cards, and there was a posting of $1,000 to [redacted] Law Offices, S.C. in Rhinelander, WI. There was a phone number, so I called them immediately. I spoke with one of the 3 brothers who own the business. I explained the situation, and I asked for my money to be credited back to my Visa account. I was told to hang on, and when he returned, he basically stated that since the transaction already went thru, he could not return the money. I told him that it did not matter if it went thru, and that they could still give me a credit on my account. He said, "NO!" I then hung up on the fool. The use of my card occurred in late May. I found out in late June, after my guest, who is no longer a friend, flew back to WI. The transaction date was around May 29th or 30th. My credit card company, [redacted], has been alerted and is viewing this as Fraud. I had to destroy the credit card, and then wait a week or so for a new card, which was an inconvenience to me. The bank continues to investigate. The money has never been returned to me, and I want to see justice done to a place of business that's supposed to uphold the law, not break it.
