This a copy of my initial email to Sh[redacted], the apparent owner of the company.
One gentleman to another, we have here what can only be considered a serious business issue where what we paid for was not delivered. And this is not an issue of the air conditioning having failed during the lease period, pursuant to your contractual release terms, as it was never working to begin with. When the kids entered the limousine, it was like an oven. The kids were traveling inside what could only be described as a sweat box and they were all literally sweating profusely. This is unacceptable for a business to do business in this manner. You either knew about this problem before hand and did nothing to remedy the situation beforehand or nor you or your driver didn't know about it. Which is worse? In either scenario it's unacceptable from a contractual perspective and morally unacceptable from a delivery of comfortable service perspective. Secondly, the driver had no idea where he was going, didn't know directions in Washington, DC, nor how to arrive to either the Jefferson or Lincoln Memorial. I'm frankly shocked that the limousine didn't have GPS, or that the driver didn't have a smart phone, a GPS device himself, or had studied maps before the event. He in fact had to ask the kids how to drive around Washington, DC, as well as to the hotel and back to the pickup location, where in fact he got lost returning the kids. I'd like to tell you something S[redacted]. When I was in school here many years ago (over 30 years ago), I was employed as a limo driver during my summers off. And the company I drove for required us to wear a suit and tie because it was supposed to be a proper event for the clients. And they also required us to make sure we knew all of the routes where the clients wished to go for the evening. This was back before GPS was invented and all that we had were maps and our memories. I would literally drive my own car over the entire route before hand to make sure I knew the evening's routes. So for you to send me a driver, such as you did, broke every rule that I ever learned when I was a limo driver and it was really unacceptable. Is it in your contract that your driver should be professional and knowledgeable or dress respectably? No, it's not. But it's certainly expected. Anyone leasing a limousine would expect not to have to be bothered by a driver asking his clients for directions. It's absurd to say the least. In addition, the limousine driver himself admitted that his limousine was almost out of gas and that he needed to find a a BP gas station to fill the tank. He left but returned by saying that he was not able to find one. When asked further, he said there would be enough gas for the evening. Now it's starting to become perfectly clear why the cabin wasn't cool during the entire evening. It was because the driver didn't want to leave the car running to establish a cool environment in the cabin of the limousine. In fact, he left the car in the heat for more than an hour waiting for the kids to leave at 6pm that evening. And he never left the car running at all the stops that he made during the evening, i.e. the two memorials where the kids left the vehicle to take photos and at the hotel where the Prom Dance was held. It's quite obvious from this set of circumstances that the driver is responsible for his gas expenses and he was trying to save OR you, the company, tells its drivers that the gas expenses will be taken out of their pay. In either event, this is and was an unacceptable way to treat paying clients for what is supposed to be a very memorable and pleasant experience. Yes, it was memorable, but for all the wrong reasons.
So, here's what I recommend we do to resolve this amicably because you essentially ruined the evening for our kids who were out celebrating their graduation from high school and who were expecting anything but to be carried around in a sweat box. As an aside, do you know what that hot and humid environment did to all of the girls $150 hair salon and $100 make up vistas for their special evening? They were ruined, that's what. So because of this, I am asking for a full $960 refund. And I am also not giving the 20% tip that I had planned on providing the driver. Driver's like this don't deserve being rewarded for their abysmal service.
And if you don't think this is the right thing to do, I'd really like to know how you can justify keeping 1 cent of what I paid. You really owe me more than the $960 given all the money that was spent by the girls with hair and makeup that you destroyed.
