Although Mrs*** is not and has not ever been a patient of City Medical, we would like to
resolve this issue once and for all, City Medical provided Mrs***'s husband with home
care services, and has never received a complaint from him who is of sound mind and able
to speak for himselfWe have only heard great things about our staff, and had pleasant
conversations with Mr***
The event that Mrs*** is speaking of was very unfortunate and unforeseenOne of Mr
***'s home health aides at the time, agreed to take Mr*** and his wife to his doctor's
appointment which was in another city (the city that the patient was originally from) and in
her own vehicle, because Mrs*** claimed to have no money for gasEven though we do
not travel outside of city limits for our patients and even though our staff knows that this
will not be on company time, City Medical and our staff is known for going above and
beyond for our patients and treating them as familyOn the way to this appointment, Mr
***'s HHA was having car trouble and asked if it was ok for her to make a stop at the car
dealership to discuss the issue with the dealer, and Mrs*** agreedPer the HHA's story,
there was a mutual agreement to give the car back and get another one, but she did not
know that they would take it at that momentUnfortunately, there was nothing that she
could do, so she called her sister to pick them up from the dealership and take them to the
appointment and then back homeHer sister arrived at the dealership, and Mrs***
refused the rideThe HHA asked how she would like to get home and Mrs*** insisted on
taking the COTA busEven though Mrs*** refused a ride, the HHA did not want to leave
them there, so she gave them money to catch the bus, and even bought them food from
***
Mrs*** never called us that day, we had only heard of the incident from the HHA who
did her job as our staff always does, and made us aware of what transpired with Mr***
Even though the event did not transpire on company time, we immediately called Mrs***
to apologizeThe telephone number provided to us as always, was out of minutes and was
not in serviceSo we sent the message with our nurse to apologize on our behalfWe sent
another HHA to provide services for Mr*** from that point on, which Mrand Mrs***
said they were happy with and still is to this dayAt that point we assumed the issue was
resolved
A couple of days after the event goes by, we get a letter given to us by the nurse from Mrs
*** rehashing the unfortunate event with the previous HHA's car, and how it was her
birthday and her day was ruinedAt this point we knew there was something more that she
wanted, considering the stories our staff has heard from her own family members about her
consistently finding ways to get money out of companies and even fighting about money
with her own familyMrs*** has even called our office on several occasions asking for
help to pay rent and bills, complaining about her expenses to our staff in her home, asking
for favors, etcAfter receiving the letter, our administrator called Mr*** to see what more
we could do to make to rectify the situationBecause Mr***'s wife always interferes with
his care, she then starts demanding $and yelling threatsOur Administrator told her
that we do not give money to our patients or family members of patients for any reason,
besides birthday gift cards, but she will forward her request for $to our lawyer, who
handles these types of situations (which never occur with our company)Our lawyer
advised us that we did nothing wrong and we handled the situation according to CMS
standards, and that this type of demand was extortionEven though she was not our
patient, we sent a letter with our nurse to give to Mrs***, apologizing once again, and
included a $gift card to *** for her birthday that was as she stated "ruined",
which is something we do for our patient's birthday's and their caregiver's (if we are made
aware) regardless of any complaint made
We never heard from Mror Mrs*** again, and according to the nurse (because we were
unable to reach her by telephone), he and she was happy with the resolution until her
husband received a discharge letter from our company, stating that we would like to part
ways due to the ongoing conflict with his wife extorting money from our company,
interfering with the patient's care by shifting all the focus on herself, and her unacceptable
behavior of asking our staff to do things that are not in her husband's plan of care, and
although he was great as a patient, we did not feel like we were a good fit for him AND his
wifeThe letter also said, that we will provide services as regular for the next days, and
advised him to seek home care services elsewhere, and if he had any problems or needed
assistance or referrals, to contact usThis is when Mrs*** called us threatening us once
again, this time with the Revdex.com complaintI asked her to please have her husband give us a
call, if he himself had any complaintsMr*** then called only to inquire about why we
were going to discharge himAfter explaining to Mr***, we assured him that we would
take great care of him within these days, and will help in any way that we can, and
apologized that we could not keep him as a patientHe said ok, and we ended the
conversation
City Medical has been in business for years, and we take pride in our staff and our
reputation for providing our patients with excellent care and treating them like familyWe
did everything we could do and were supposed to do for Mr*** and to resolve this issue
with Mrs***
Should you have any questions or concerns, Please contact meThank you for your
attention to this matter
Sincerely,
