City Towing & Recovery Reviews (1)

I was told an amount I owed, but when I asked for an itemized view, I was told I could not get one.My car was towed there after an accident on a Friday. The next Monday, after the insurance adjuster looked at the vehicle, I was told my vehicle could remain there until I could get to it. The next Friday, I was told there were over $800 in fees I owed, but that I could turn over the car title and only owe half. I went there, turned over the title, paid the remaining amount, but when I asked about an itemized total, was told I could only be given that if I paid the "full" amount. All I was given was a purchase of sale of my car for $0 and written account stating I paid the approx. $400 of fees due. No specific details of what those fees were.Desired SettlementTheir stated towing fee is $195.00, which I have no issue paying, but I was charged $430.00 for "fees" and given no visual representation on how those fees were calculated. I believe the $235.00 difference should be refunded.Business Response A unfortunate situation occurred between Mr. [redacted] vehicle and one of our tow trucks on 12/05/14, where Mr.[redacted] vehicle a [redacted] rear ended unit #* at highway speed on the [redacted]beltline during rush hour traffic. Another tow truck was dispatched to the seen to recover Mr. [redacted] vehicle which was blocking a travel lane at the request of the Raleigh PD investigating the crash. Our pricing protocol was followed normally when there is a crash and we are dispatched to the scene followed by an impoundment of a vehicle. Mr.[redacted] was charged a $195.00 accident fee as well as a $35.00 per day storage fee. The total of that bill due would have been $1105.00 with the storage date starting on 12/06/2014 when this account was settled on 12/31/2014. Mr. [redacted] stated that he did not have collision coverage on the vehicle so the agreement was made for less than half of the balance plus the title to the total loss vehicle for disposal which was in the amount of $430.00 paid by a debit card transaction. The math was simple, unless Mr. [redacted] wanted to pay the full amount due and remove the vehicle, he would have gotten a itemize receipt. The bill of sale that Mr. [redacted] has clearly states in the comment section that $430.00 was accepted with the title and that no fees are due. This situation has put us at some what of a disadvantage with a truck being out of service, an employee complaining of back issues etc. The vehicle impounded is worth the current scrap rate of $7.00 per 100lbs which would put it under a $300.00 scale price. This complaint we would consider is without merit because we did not create this event but we also have tried and thought we at least have settled one part of this unfortunate event. We would be open to reversing this agreement and turning this file over to collections or litigating for a judgement. Please see the attached Bill of Sale and a copy of the title. Consumer Response The Monday following the accident, I was told by an employee that the car was "fine to stay there until I could bring the title." Storage fees were never mentioned and, since I was selling them the car I assumed I would not be billed for storing a vehicle that was going to be theirs. If I had gone up there the next day, I could have given them the title then and paid, at most, the towing fee of $195.00. So I still feel I should be reimbursed the difference of $235.00, but at least want to have my displeasure recorded in some fashion and hope that in the future this company makes people aware of their daily fees before they begin to accrue. Again, if I had been told there would be fees associated with storing the vehicle before I handed them the title, I would have done so immediately, but, as I was not informed of this I let it go a week, thus incurring more storage fees on a vehicle that the company now owns anyway.
