Review: My son was bullied by a student in his class at City Tree beginning in the summer of 2012. Bullying included repeatedly pulling my son's pants down in front of other children; calling him the * word, an [redacted], a [redacted], and a [redacted] sticking a lead pencil into his back causing a scar; placing his hands around my son's neck, leaving marks; making hand gestures to my son indicating hed slash his throat; punching his palm and saying the name of my other son, who also attended the school; stealing school supplies; kicking him from behind; pushing him in line; spitting and coughing on his lunch; and setting him up in class so it would appear he had violated classroom rules. My son no longer wanted to go to school and told us he hated being alive. We asked staff, teachers, and the principal to help us resolve the issue. Instead of doing so, both children were placed on a behavior plan although everyone acknowledged my child was not the perpetrator but the victim. The bullying escalated and we sought counseling to help our child deal with this. I asked to meet with the school board, but the president refused my request. Our son is also hypoglycemic and has a 504 plan that the school refused to adhere to. We hoped City Tree would address these serious issues, and gave them numerous opportunities to intervene, but got no where. We informed the school of our intent to withdraw our two kids from the school on December 11, 2013, following another serious altercation. Their last day of school was December 20, 2013. City Tree withheld funds because we did not give customary notice. We did not think it would be responsible to keep our children at the school beyond Dec. 20 given what we described above. Following an exchange of correspondence, we have received some of the reimbursement we requested, although the school now denies that anything I've described in this complaint occurred.Desired Settlement: We we charged for the whole month of December 2013. Their last date of attendance was 12/20/13. We are owed a reimbursement of $440.60 for December 21-31, 2013. In addition, we prepaid tuition of $12,420 on July 12, 2013, for the school year. We request interest on that amount at 10%. We were charged $65 for reading resource services for November 2013. We cancelled the services in October and do not owe this. We prepaid a Jan. 2014 field trip for both kids of $15. We want this back.
