City Wide Apartments Reviews (1)

Review: We used CityWide Apartments in our apartment search, and with their help, they were able to find an apartment. They led us to believe that we would be the perfect candidates for the unit and encouraged us to put in an application on the unit. We ended up filling out an application, sending all required paperwork (references, confidential tax returns/statements, checking accounts, savings account, and brokerage accounts) all within the timeframe they requested. We submitted the paperwork on Thursday (6/**/2013) and they said to come in for the lease signing, which they subsequently pushed back to Friday without a proper explanation. We did not hear from them on Friday or over the weekend, at which point we reached out on Monday morning (6/**/2013) inquiring to when we can come to their office and sign the lease. The broker ([redacted]) informed us that his boss/owner of the apt was now giving the apartment to someone else. Given our current lease was expiring on July *, this put us in a serious dilemma as we missed out on 5 days of searching for an apt since we were essentially lied to by CityWide when they told us the apt would be ours. However, to make matters worse, they said they had another unit available in a different building that would work for a July *. When we said we would like to move forward with that apartment, they encouraged us to again submit another application. Once we submitted the application, they called us to inform us again that this unit was now apparently for an August * move-in marking the second time we were tricked by CityWide. I have never encountered such unethical and unprofessional group of people. They put us in a completely awful situation by leading us on to believe we would be able to get 2 different apartments only to screw us at the last second. I honestly felt that they were just manufacturing excuses/stories that prevented us from getting an apartment through them. We now have a week and a half before we need to move-out and have no apartment thanks to CityWide!Desired Settlement: Payment for the significant inconvenience or have us move into the original apartment discussed.

To whom it may concern:

At City Wide Apartments we greatly value our customers and take any complaint very seriously. In regard to the complaint filed by [redacted] we would like to file the following response. We understand how [redacted] feels and greatly apologize for creating any distress. As the representative of City Wide I have communicated with all the parties involved in this exchange and have been informed of the following facts. At the point when [redacted] had expressed interest in the apartment, the agent [redacted], had explained the need to get board approval and that the approval process can take an undetermined amount of time. The fact that the lease signing was delayed was due to the owner of the apartment receiving another qualified application. In the field of real estate, application approval is dependant on a variety of factors, many out of the agent’s control. When learning that the owner of the apartment had decided to choose another applicant, [redacted], quickly followed up with another search finding them a second apartment to move into.

In regards to the second apartment which [redacted] applied to, the change in the move in date was completely out of our control. We had also been misinformed by the management company and only when the correct move in date was given to us we immediately communicated this to [redacted]. At this point [redacted], willing to do anything in his power to help [redacted], offered to speak with [redacted]’s current landlord about extending their lease for an additional month. Unfortunately, the events that lead to [redacted] submitting this complaint were out of our control. Though we are very compassionate towards his experience we feel like we did everything we could to rectify the situation.

Please let me know if any further action is needed.

Sincerely,

--
