Tell us why here...

Tell us why here...Good morning: We're writing in response to the complaint filed with the Revdex.com by [redacted]. First, we'd like to say that we're sincerely sorry that Mrs. [redacted] isn't happy with the deck replacement we did for her, though we're confused as to...

why. Additionally, we weren’t aware of any issues related to the windows until the deck became an issue. The window work was done back in November of last year. We did enter into a contract with Mrs. [redacted] on 6/6/2017. We agreed to do the work on the insurance scope of loss less the items Mrs. [redacted] asked us not do which was work related to HVAC and repairs to some lattice on her property. We  also did not paint the interior side of the newly installed garage doors as we’ve never had a customer request the inside portion of their garage doors to be painted. She was credited back that portion of the insurance proceeds for interior garage door painting not done. The work we did do per the insurance scope of loss was the roof, gutters, windows, paint, overhead garage doors, skylight flashing , fireplace chase cover, and deck. Again, in accordance with the DETAILED insurance scope of loss. We have had several conversations with Mrs. [redacted] recently both by telephone and by email. It wasn't until the project was completed that we first heard of any issues related to the deck installation or windows, even though the windows were done last November. In fact issues related to the windows weren't even brought up until well after deck issues were being discussed. Upon being notified of deck related issues, Granby H[redacted], one of our managers called Mrs. [redacted] to inquire. Mrs. [redacted] said she was un-happy with the deck because it had more knots in the wood then her previous deck had. She also mentioned that there were a couple of issues with the "cut's" on the handrails. She thought the redwood that was used was inferior quality, that B-grade was a better quality and should have been used. She also thought the deck was poorly installed, and that she didn't want to pay us for the work that was done. Mr. H[redacted] told her we'd be happy to send the sub contractor that built the deck back out to address any issues she may have. This offer was extended several times and the offer still stands today. Mrs. [redacted] not only refused our offer(s), but said she wanted the deck to be removed, also at our expense. Mr. H[redacted] explained that the redwood used was a con heart redwood and was actually an excellent quality redwood product. He explained the con heart is equal in quality to B-grade and that the difference in the two types comes down to appearance. Mr. H[redacted] explained that B-grade was never requested by her, let alone documented contractually. Nor was it specified in the insurance paperwork. In fact, according to the project manager, he explained to Mrs. [redacted] that con heart redwood was being used and that is was a better quality wood then the redwood being replaced. We would also like to note that at one point, the project manager had the opportunity to speak with the gentleman that built the original deck. During that conversation the gentleman told our project manager that the original deck he built was with construction grade redwood. That being the case, the wood we used was a significant upgrade over the wood we replaced. Mr H[redacted] went on to ask Mrs. [redacted] why she never voiced any concerns to anyone at Citywide Roofing during the 7 plus days it took to replace and stain the new decking (approximately 7-8 days). Mrs. [redacted] said that she never saw the new wood during that time period as she "went to work when it was dark, and got home from work when it was dark". After speaking with both the project manager and the subcontractor, we were told that Mrs. [redacted] was at home several times while the work was being done, and actually walked the project with the subcontractor on at least two occasions. Both the project manager and the sub contractor said that Mrs. [redacted] on both occasions said how pleased she was with the deck though she did ask for a couple of minor issues to be addressed....all of which were addressed to include sanding out an area of the deck that her dog urinated on before it was stained. Being confused by the conflicting stories, Mr. H[redacted] emailed Mrs. [redacted] asking her to clarify her stance, that she never saw the deck while the work was in process. Mrs. [redacted] never responded. The sub contractor also noted that after the deck was completed, Mr. [redacted] walked the job with him and told him how pleased he was with the deck, complimented the subcontractor on the quality of his craftsmanship and actually asked for the sub contractors business card. Again, when Mr. H[redacted] inquired about the conversation between Mr. [redacted] and the subcontractor, again, there was no response. Also pertaining to the deck issue..... It is true that the wood on the stairs was not replaced. That was at Mrs. [redacted]'s request. (Something to do with her dog). The material for the steps was purchased and is on-site. We told Mrs. [redacted] that when she wants the wood on the steps replaced, to please notify us and we will be happy to come back out and do that for her. This was before any complaints were ever made. Regarding the invoice issue......we did send Mrs. [redacted] an itemized invoice. we explained to Mrs. [redacted] that the invoice was done in accordance with the DETAILED insurance scope or work and for the amount of insurance proceeds as agreed  upon in our contract, plus her deductible. At no point in any of our conversations did Mrs. [redacted] state that we ever agreed to pay her deductible. That was never stated until her complaint to the CRA. Mrs. [redacted]'s itemized invoice request was for us to itemize our invoice for every nail, board, shingle, etc. that was used on the job. She also wanted to know what was paid to our sub contractor's That is not a reasonable request, nor does it matter. We explained that it doesn't make a difference what we paid in labor or materials. Our contract states that we are to be paid insurance proceeds plus her deductible for the work we did. That's all we invoiced for, and are requesting to be paid by Mrs. [redacted]. No more....no less. We have received confirmation from her insurance Company that all proceeds have been released. We are simply asking to be paid for the work we did as contractually agreed upon. Mrs. [redacted] has refused to do so. We did explain to her that the work has been completed and that after 30 days her account is considered past due, per the contract. She again refused to pay so we very politely and professionally explained that if we didn’t receive payment we would have no choice but to file a lien on her property and turn her account over to our attorney for collection. Regarding the window issue.......Our project manager told Mrs' [redacted] early on that he thought there was enough damage to eight windows to justify window replacement. Our project manager spoke with three adjusters in effort to get window replacement. All three refused and would only pay the have the metal wrap replaced on all eight windows. That's what we did. Our project manager walked the job with Mrs. [redacted] several times, so she should  be well aware of the windows that were damaged and repaired. However, our project manager would be more than happy to meet with Mrs. [redacted] again, along with the window sub contractor that did the work, to again show her which windows were repaired in accordance with what her Insurance Company approved. The redwood we purchased was from [redacted] Lumber. They've been in business for over 50 years and have a excellent reputation for selling quality products. They are more than willing to attest to the grade and quality of redwood that was purchased for the [redacted] deck. Mr. H[redacted] invited Mrs. [redacted] to call [redacted] Lumber with any questions she may have related to the redwood purchased and installed on her deck. We have no intention of removing the deck and/or removing the cost of the deck from our invoice.  Again, we're more than happy to go out and address any "reasonable" requests that Mrs. [redacted] has related to the work done on the deck. The materials alone for the deck was $5011.53. The labor to install the deck was $6741.40. After overhead and the project managers commission, our profit is more than reasonable. Regarding the permit issue……Jefferson county does not require a permit for replacing the walking planks and handrails. They only require a permit if the deck is being newly constructed. We did not build the deck from the ground up. Therefore, a permit was not required In summary, we feel like we've done a great job on the [redacted] home and have done everything possible to work in the [redacted]'s best interest with their insurance Company and to complete the work performed to our high standards. Even in their own words to our project manager and sub contractor's, we believed they thought we had done a great job. We also feel we've done everything reasonably possible to address Mrs. [redacted]s outstanding issues. We have attached for your review a copy of our contract, a copy of the Insurance scope of work, a copy of our invoice sent to Mrs. [redacted] which again coincides with the (detailed) insurance Scope of work. The invoice from [redacted] lumber which clearly indicates the quality/type of redwood purchased and installed and a copy of the subcontractor’s invoice for installing the deck. If you would like any additional information, please feel free to ask. Additionally, please note our Revdex.com rating and online reviews. I believe they will attest to the type of Company we are and the high standards we achieve in the industry. Thank you for notifying us and providing us the opportunity to respond. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any additional questions or concerns Jeff H[redacted]President,Citywide Roofing and Exteriors, Inc.303-940-7238[Quoted text hidden]-- Jeff H[redacted]Citywide Roofing & Exteriors, Inc.720-629-2852 - Cell303-940-7238 - Officewww.citywideroofingandexteriors.com
