My name is James M***, owner of C&J Auto Repair, This letter is in response to a complaint filed by *** ***On the week of September 14th, *** ***'s *** was diagnosed with UPPER engine oil leaksThe customer was notified of this diagnosis and quoted a price and was informed that previous work was done elsewhere to mask this oil leak, by smearing sealant over the oil leak on driver's side head and a busted bolt that holds the valve cover to front cam cover on passenger sideHe was given the choice to take the vehicle back to where it was purchased, or come in to observe oil leaks while vehicle was on the liftHe chose not to come in and asked to have us do the repairs, In photograph, A which is provided, you can see where original oil leaks were, which consisted of left and right valve cover and cam cover gaskets, and oil pressure switch, Due to the severity of the oil leaks that we repaired, we rechecked to make sure the oil leaks were gone by test driving the vehicle and leaving it run on the lift for two hours to ensure the oil leaks were resolvedThere was no more oil leaking, The vehicle was finished September At time of pickup Friday September 26, *** *** was given passenger side front cam cover which had the busted bolt, and he also notified me that the vehicle was out of gas and he stated it had a quarter tank when he dropped offI did give *** *** twenty dollars for the gas but also explained to him that gas was used to run vehicle to check for the oil leaksAt time of pickup, there were NO OIL LEAKS, On October 29, *** *** returned his vehicle for oil leaks, which we checked at no cost, which you can see from, photograph A is now located at LOWER PART of the engineIn closing, when *** *** picked up his vehicle on Sep 26, there were no known oil leaksHad the lower leak been present at the first diagnostics, *** ***'s bill would have been doubled due to the fact the engine needs to be pulled up in order to fix that particular leakI do want to stress the severity of the original leak would not have stopped for a week or so and then restartAn oil leak if not fixed will continue leaking which we repaired the original leak on sepIt is unfortunate that a new leak started in a different area that we diagnosed for *** *** at no charge on Oct 29, weeks laterI cannot determine if an oil leak is going to appearAgain I stress, when *** *** picked up his *** on Sep 26, there were no known oil leaksWe fixed the original problem, and I will not pay another mechanic to repair a new oil leak that was not there when first diagnosed, With this new oil leak I did try to work with *** *** by quoting him $to $This repair could be a $to $repair if done elsewhere, I do not feel I am responsible to pay another mechanic to do this repair when the original repair was completedI would like to comment that *** *** has stated to me numerous times that he has owned the car for four to six months and has only been able to drive it a week or so due to problemsThe customer stated he returned the vehicle back to where he originally purchased for repairs, and he also complained that it spent a month or more at a transmission shop for repairsThese conversations took place over the phone in September, I can’t help feeling that my garage is being targeted, and the customer wants a free repairThe vehicle has had numerous problems since purchased stated by customerWe fixed the original problem diagnosed discussed earlier in this letterThank you for your attention to this matterJames M
