CJ's Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Reviews (2)

Review: I contacted CJ's A/C & Ref on 6/**/2013 to look into a leak caused by my air conditioner. I spoke to [redacted] who made an appointment to see me the next morning. When the truck arrived I found that [redacted] sent one of his service men. Which in itself would have been okay. The service man checked out the air conditioner and said it needed Freon and he cleaned the condenser. He replaced 2 parts (2 - R22 for $80.00 and coil cleaner for $30.00. I was charged $85.00 for service and $80.00 for Labor. Plus tax the entire bill was $298.71. When he left he claimed the problem should be fixed - if not it may be the expansion valve which would cost over $1,000.00 to fix. About 2 hours later the leak started again, ruining the ceiling in one bedroom and the top of the overhang on the front porch. Fortunately for me my son's friend, who happens to work with air conditioners visited from New York City and took a quick look. He then proceeded to blow out the lines and claimed they were clogged and that the expansion valve was fine. He took a picture of the pipe shooting out the water. Since he cleared the lines my air conditioner has worked perfectly fine. NO LEAKS at all. I feel I was taken advantage of - I don't know if [redacted] would have done a different job, and his worker just didn't know what he was doing. I feel I overpaid due to the fact the person didn't know what he was doing and I am out almost $300.00 for a job not done properly.Desired Settlement: I feel CJ's A/C & Ref should refund at least part of what I paid for since the job was botched.

Response:

I would very much like to respond to your complaint

regarding the service you received from our technician.

The problem you reported to us when you called was that your

air conditioner was not cooling. Our

technician found that you had excessive amounts of water in your auxiliary

drain pan, and your machine was running a high head pressure and a low back

pressure. These symptoms indicate that your evaporator was iced up prior to his

arrival. The technician then proceeded to test the primary drain and cleaned

the condenser coil (to lower head pressure). Once he got the machine running

properly he then added Freon to manufacturer’s specifications. You were billed for the work that was

performed to get your system to cool your home.

Your problem with condensation is a different issue.

If the condensation started 2 hours after our technician

left, I wish you would have called us then, so that we could have investigated

the situation and helped you with that.

We can assure you that our technician definitely knew what

he was doing when he responded to your call. We take pride in our honesty,

trustworthiness and fairness in the work that we do and in providing the best

service to our customers.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

First off - the answer from the business is incorrect. He stated that my A/C wasn't cooling. I never reported that to him - when I called I stated that my A/C was leaking and I turned it off. I have the water stains on the bedroom ceiling and under my portico to prove this. What the technician did may have been necessary or not, but after the lines were drained which was done by my son's friend (and a/c person) I have not had any problems at all. My A/C has been working fine.

I had two reasons for not calling him back - 1) The technician told me that if it leaked again it was probably the expansion valve which was very costly - upwards of $1,000. and 2) I was lucky that my son's friend stopped by and took a look and fixed the problem in 15 minutes.

I still feel the business should make some sort of apology or refund to me.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Sincerely,

Response:

Dear [redacted],

We do not want you to be dissatisfied. There was a communication error and we are

sorry that that happened. Please be

assured that we would not charge $1,000 for an expansion valve replacement for

your size system. We are happy that

your air-conditioner is working fine.

We would like to offer you a 20% discount on a future

air-conditioning service call to your home and earn your confidence in us.

Thank you for making us aware of this situation.

Review: We prepaid $198.24 for spring start up and check of our air conditioning units. The service technician looked at the attic units from outside of the attic doors using the light from his cell phone. He put his hand on the three outside units, reported to me that they were cold and were running fine. He gave me three new filters, two of which he installed. I personally opened up all of the vents etc and vacuumed them before he had arrived. Thus, I paid $200 for three filters. Additionally, according to the July/August issue of "The Family Handyman" magazine the "high energy allergy type filters...can cause equipment damage, high utility usage, poor airflow...and long run cycles." Thus I now have to replace those filters on my own time and expense.Desired Settlement: I want my money back which I asked him for via telephone but two weeks later still do not have.

Response:

Dear [redacted],

I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with our service. As you requested, I have mailed a refund check #[redacted] for $198.24 (182.50 + 15.74tx) to inspect 3 central air-conditioning units at your home.

In response to your complaint with the Revdex.com, our technicians are trained to determine equipment problems in multiple ways. Experienced technicians can check equipment’s basic operability by tactilely, visually, auditorily, as well as an olfactorily inspection. Sometimes, because of equipment age, it is detrimental to older unit(s) to do unnecessary test procedures if everything appears to be operating correctly. The technician that was assigned to your home has been servicing air-conditioning systems for us for 15 years and has been very successful in determining equipment malfunctions without causing more problems during the process.

The filters we supplied that you mentioned, I was told you requested. Only two of them were installed because you requested the third one not be installed, due to your limited usage of that system.

In over thirty years of doing business on Long Island, we have never received a complaint from the Revdex.com. I am truly sorry you feel we did not deliver the service you expected.
