In my 2008 Toyota Camry, the engine appeared to be consuming oil. I routinely checked engine oil, when it was low, I added more engine oil.
Approximately three months later when I noticed the problem, I received a letter from Toyota for extended Engine warranty for the reason that they have found some Toyota Engines to be consuming motor oil. I was notified to take my vehicle into a Toyota dealer for an oil consumption test.
About a month after receiving the letter, I took in my vehicle in for service and also the oil consumption test. Unfortunately, I was told that there was an oil leak and as a result, I had to replace the oil gasket, total cost $370.
But, I decided to fix the oil gasket at a later time. Approximately two months later, I came back to the same dealer to fix the oil leak and additional problem that was causing my steering wheel to shake when I braked. The service rep did mention that it was due to the rotors, and that they had to be resurfaced. I told them about the oil leak, too.
I do not remember how and why, the service rep printed out a contract just to have the vehicle inspected for oil leak and rotors for free. Which was a good thing I guess, before I paid up.
After the free inspection, the service rep printed out another contract or receipt of how much it would cost to fix the "Excessive oil leak" and front rotors for approximately $2600. That is a lot of money. I believe, I still have the receipt at home. They sure do have this estimate on their computer.
But when, I went to [redacted] with the free inspection, they told me that it was only the drain bolt that was leaking. and that it was extremely easy to fix. At the end, I paid only approximately $388 to have new rotors and brake pads set in the front, including fixing the oil leak.
The next day, I took my car to another dealer, they didn't once mention that the vehicle had any sort of leaking after the fix. Toyota Claremont!!!
