The most unprofessional encounter I have ever had. I was given two different sets contacts to try out to decide whether I need bifocals or mono vision. My first red flag was when she just pulled out 2 or 3 bifocals for me to try on to see which strength worked best. She also mentioned there was another brand she didn't have at this office that she thought would work better (flag). I was told to wear the contacts that work better for my follow up. After two days of my eyes burning from the one set of contacts, I called to see if the doctor wanted me to get the other brand to try. The receptionist said I should just wear the other contact until my appointment. When I questioned it, she told me the days that the doctor was NOT in the office (flag). She never consulted the doctor or offered to have her contact me. So, I showed up to my appointment today with no contacts in because the contact that I could see with burned my eye. The reception exclaimed, "Oh no, you need to have your contacts in 3 hours before an appointment!" I replied that I had called. The receptionist went between the doctor and me a couple of times (flag), before saying the doctor said that it was the solution making my eyes burn, so I needed to cleanse the contacts. I said no because I was not going to use contacts I had to cleanse overnight before I could use them. The receptionist then tried to tell me that that is what should always be done. When I told her I had been wearing contacts since I was 18 years old and had never been told that she back tracked. However, she wasn't backtracking on me using the contacts, so I asked her why I wasn't talking to the doctor since I had an appointment and that this was unprofessional. What professional has their receptionist conduct an appointment? Where were these contacts she thought would work better? What doctor would put someone in a contact that they have to use an overnight solution on just to be able to wear? The doctor did come down the hall already mumbling, "Sorry, I was on the phone." in a teenage girl sort of way (major flag). She had an attitude and thought she would put me in my place, but I am not that person. When I interrupted her to tell her that I had called last week. She said I needed to calm down and stop being so angry. I replied that if I were angry she would know it. She said I should leave and come back when I calm down. I still have done nothing but tell her what she didn't want to hear. I am a strong personality that often tells the hard truth, but I never loose my temper. She walked away and told the receptionist to refund my money. All this because I wouldn't wear damaging contacts and expected the doctor to be professional and speak to me about this herself. I said, "Ok (to the refund), and if you bill my insurance then I will file fraud charges with my insurance company." That really set her off. She came back to the counter, raising her voice at this point, to say she had given me an exam. I said, "No, you gave me contacts that burn my eyes." I didn't get to add that they weren't even the correct strength because when I said that she gave me contacts that burn my eyes she told her receptionist to call the authorities on me if I didn't leave. I told her I wasn't leaving because she said I was getting a refund. To that, she told the receptionist to call the authorities and she wasn't giving me a refund now. Seriously, like a spoiled little girl, "And, I'm not giving her a refund now!" I said that was fine I had a group of attorneys that would get it back for me. At that point, I was angry and left. It was a clear run around and I wasn’t having it, so she tried to make me out to be angry. Yes, I was appalled at the behavior, but not some angry woman. I just dared to question her actions. I would hate to know how many people think they need to rinse their contacts before ever using them, or just deal with stinging because of this person.

Thank you for your feedback. We are always happy to work with patients and go the extra mile to find solutions to any eye care issues they may face. What we can not allow, however, is loud, confrontational, aggressive or threatening behavior towards our doctors, staff, or other patients. We do not believe that responding and engaging in this type of behavior is beneficial and it does not allow us to appropriately communicate how we intend to proceed with your future care. This is why you were asked to leave our office and return when you could have a calm conversation about how we can help find a contact lens that can meet your needs. We regret that this incident had to occur and are happy to discuss any of your concerns but will not do so under hostile conditions. I will also mention that the staff member you were speaking with was our contact lens technician and is more than qualified to assist patients with issues relating to their contact lenses at the direction of the doctors.

JULY 25,2017 had an eye check up for new glasses.
AUG.3,went to their office to have new glasses fitted to wear. When I put glasses on I could not see thru them, shelves on walls and table tops moved in wave fashion and lenses pulled at eyes. Was told I had to put glasses on first thing of the morning and wear for a week and my eyes would adjust to them. For a week I Tried repeatedly to wear glasses but after 15 minutes eyes hurt and head ached, trying to do as instructed, I continued each day to put them on and tried to keep them on a little longer for two more weeks.Eyes hurting more and headaches lasting into nigh time. AUG.30,and tell them I can't wear them they feel like they are pulling my eyes out/headaches!They look at glasses, tell me they need to be fitted to my face better, so they adjust them, tell me to wear a week starting first thing in the morning, AUG.31,NOTHING IS BETTER ABOUT GLASSES EVERYTHING IS STILL WAVY AND HURTING MY EYES. According to our records, the original eye examination of the complainant was in July of 2017. The complainant gave a monetary value of 600 dollars but according to our ledger her glasses were 447.95 (this included 139.40 for her frame). She also had a medical ocular examination. I am unclear as to why she stated 600 dollars in her complaint as that is not what we collected from her. When it was brought to our attention that she was having difficulty with her glasses, we scheduled a time for her to come in to have her vision re-checked. Unfortunately, she could not come in immediately due to personal circumstances and an appointment was scheduled for October. Due to the passing of her husband, she cancelled that appointment (which is completely understandable) and the next appointment was made for December. At that time, a different doctor in our practice checked the prescription to give a second opinion. At that time, there was a slight change in prescription, but it had also been almost 6 months since the initial examination and eyes often change in that amount of time. We remade the rx at our cost to the new prescription even though it was outside of the warranty period and only a small change. We discussed many times with the complainant that the way glasses are sitting on the face as well as adjustment can change the way you see and is often the cause of her symptoms. If glasses are not lined up appropriately then the center of vision will not be lined up with the pupil and vision can be affected. It is important to note that when the vision was checked with the new rx in July 2017, her vision was 20/20 in each eye. when her vision was rechecked in december, she was also 20/20 in each eye. It seems that even after a visit to another eye doctor at another office for a third opinion, she was once again told that the glasses adjustment was her issue. I'm inclined to think that three different doctors stating the same thing may have some validity. There are also different factors that can affect vision, most notably cataracts and dry eye to name a few, but due to potential patient privacy issues and hippa violations I do not think it would be prudent to delve into the patient's medical chart in a public manner. We always strive to go above and beyond for our patients in our office but we can not do so if we do not know about issues. The last thing we heard from the complainant was that things seemed much better with the new rx so unfortunately , we assumed her issues had been resolved. We would also like to add that we are sorry to hear of the passing of the complainant's husband. It is a hard thing for anyone to have to go through and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
