Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Mr [redacted] is supposed to be the professional, and I needed the leak in my home fixed...Why do you think I called this company...If you look at his website 1.Website clearly states"We Stop Leaks" in large print and their phone number is 1-800-794-LEAK...I had a leak, and expected Clark Builders to stop that leak, which they did not...Not only was the problem misdiagnosed and not solved, the phrase "We stop Leaks" is inaccurate and advertising The contract states, I have a year guarantee, but Mr [redacted] (who is the owner) would not take responsibility for the continued leaking and extensive damage done to rooms of my home due to the continued leaking...Clark Builders came out and game me a new estimate to "stop the leak" and it was an additional $3,740.00...I will not have them do ANY additional work to my home I had several other home improvement/roofing contractors out to my home for estimates, their estimates didn't come near what Clark Builders is, much, much lower...Each of these contractors expressed a concern about the work Clark Builders did after examining the roof...I was told Clark Builders did not correctly complete the flashing around the chimney and the existing vent pipes...I was told metal flashing should have been used in addition to karnak flashing cement...Additionally, the amount of karnak used was in excess, thus it has not dried correctly...The karnak should have dried in a week or less...These contractors told me, after months the karnak was still pliable and easily moved...Using too much karnak will not set, it will remain pliable and will not adhere correctly...One contractor said they used $of karnak and labor, and charged $ Iam more than willing to let any company of your choice to come and examine their work Now, maybe you can see a little better why I feel this was a "lets get one over on Mrs [redacted] "...I being a senior citizen, do not personally go up on my roof...I did not check the work performed by Clark Builders...I do know, I called them to stop a leak into my back bedroom...I know they gave me an estimate, and a contract...I paid this company to complete the work to stop the leak...The leak at this time was not stopped...Clark Builders even agrees that the leak and job they did has not been repaired, as evidenced by the second estimate they gave me for $3, When I called Mr [redacted] about payment he did say I could hold off for 2-rain stormsThe reason I paid Clark Builders is I am the type of person who likes to pay off my bills right away...Although we had a dry spell for the rest of September, into October, November and most of December 2013, I realize now I should have waited...It surely seems by what Mr [redacted] was saying about my payment that he knew the job his employees did was not the right way to solve my leak/problem I am seeking at the least a refund of the monies paid to Clark Builders as well as for additional damage to my home, that have continued and expanded due to the original problem of the leak/problem not being fixed correctly...This being said, I have not had the damage repaired as of yet Regards, [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:
Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
Mr. [redacted] is supposed to be the professional, and I needed the leak in my
home fixed...Why do you think I called this company...If you look at
his website
1.Website clearly states"We Stop Leaks" in large print and their
phone number is 1-800-794-LEAK...I had a leak, and expected Clark
Builders to stop that leak, which they did not...Not only was the
problem misdiagnosed and not solved, the phrase "We stop Leaks"
is inaccurate and false advertising...
2. The contract states, I have a 1 year guarantee, but Mr. [redacted] (who is
the owner) would not take responsibility for the continued leaking
and extensive damage done to 4 rooms of my home due to the continued
leaking...Clark Builders came out and game me a new estimate to "stop
the leak" and it was an additional $3,740.00...I will not have
them do ANY additional work to my home...
3. I had several other home improvement/roofing contractors out to my
home for estimates, their estimates didn't come near what Clark
Builders is, much, much lower...Each of these contractors expressed a
concern about the work Clark Builders did after examining the
roof...I was told Clark Builders did not correctly complete the
flashing around the chimney and the 3 existing vent pipes...I was
told metal flashing should have been used in addition to karnak
flashing cement...Additionally, the amount of karnak used was in
excess, thus it has not dried correctly...The karnak should have
dried in a week or less...These contractors told me, after 4 months
the karnak was still pliable and easily moved...Using too much karnak
will not set, it will remain pliable and will not adhere
correctly...One contractor said they used $20.00 of karnak and labor,
and charged $684.00...
Iam more than willing to let any company of your choice to come and
examine their work...
4. Now, maybe you can see a little better why I feel this was a "lets
get one over on Mrs. [redacted]"...I being a senior citizen, do not
personally go up on my roof...I did not check the work performed by
Clark Builders...I do know, I called them to stop a leak into my back
bedroom...I know they gave me an estimate, and a contract...I paid
this company to complete the work to stop the leak...The leak
at this time was not stopped...Clark Builders even agrees that the
leak and job they did has not been repaired, as evidenced by the
second estimate they gave me for $3,740.00...
5. When I called Mr. [redacted] about payment he did say I could hold off for
2-3 rain storms... The reason I paid Clark Builders is I am the type
of person who likes to pay off my bills right away...Although we had
a dry spell for the rest of September, into October, November and
most of December 2013, I realize now I should have waited...It surely
seems by what Mr. [redacted] was saying about my payment that he knew the
job his employees did was not the right way to solve my
leak/problem...
6. I am seeking at the least a refund of the monies paid to Clark
Builders as well as for additional  damage to my home, that have
continued and expanded due to the original problem of the
leak/problem not being fixed correctly...This being said, I have not
had the damage repaired as of yet...

Mrs. [redacted] first called our office on September 16, 2013 and described to me in detail where the leak from heavy rain storm showed in back bathroom ceiling. She informed us the bathroom was located in the back of house where center small window is (see Photo #1 and #2). I sent a repair truck the following day September 17, 2013 to inspect the roof for the cause of the leak. The existing roof shingles are relatively new and come with a manufacturer’s warranty of 30 years. Vent pipes located on back top center section of main roof, all located above and in the area of the bathroom below were never sealed when the new roof was installed (see Photo #1 and Photo #3). These are photos taken on the estimate day before any work or contract was issued.
Mrs. [redacted] called me on December 27, 2013 to say she had water coming in all across the entire back of the house. As we all know at this time everything was covered with snow. I sent a repair truck on January 9, 2014 to meet with Mrs. [redacted]. The photos (Photo #4, #6 and #7) were taken on January 9, 2014. As you can see the Vent pipe bases were completely sealed when the job Was completed on September 25, 2013. When I sent an invoice for payment, Mrs'. [redacted] was concerned that the leak in the bathroom might show again after a heavy rain. 1 informed her that it would be OK to delay payment and to wait until she had at least two or three good heavy rain tests. She made payment on October 9, 2013 by [redacted]. If you put the dates together, you can see that between September 25, 2013 and the date Mrs. [redacted] caiied to inform us of water penetration across the entire back of house was on December 27, 2013, a total of three months after completion of our contracted work; My men did an inspection while there knowing this condition has to be caused by something other than the roof shingle itself. We removed two shingles from the back slight pitched patio roof (see Photo #2). We found
that whoever put that roof on did it incorrectly (not up to NJ Building codes). They installed the roof shingles directly over the wood plywood decking with out installing SNOW AND lCE barrier or 15 lb.. black felt building paper (see Photo #12). This and the lack of any ventilation in the section of patio roof that sits on the interior of the back of the house (see Photo #14)
resulting in condensation forming on the interior ceilings. As you can see in the following photos (Photo #5, #8, #9, #10, #11 and #13) it shows not a leak but condensation droplets forming on the ceilings across he entire back of the house.
gave all this information to Mrs. [redacted] and at her request sent a second contract for the necessary work 0 correct the improper installation of that roof on January 10, 2014 (see attached copy).
If you have any questions, please contact me at #[redacted]. Thank you —

Review: Called this company to stop a leak in my roof, what they did was not to eliminate the cause of the leak, they just patched other areas of my roof with karnak, such as the attic fan, chimney, and pipes....I had no idea at the time I signed the contract that this would not take care of the problem as I am not a roofer....I solely put my trust in them until the problem got worse and damaged the inside of the house pretty bad and Clark Builders do not want to take the blame....In my opinion they scammed me big time....After that I also had other roofing companies come out and each one said they did not fix the problem and on top of that, what they did was not roofing ethnics (in other words a terrible lousy job)....Desired Settlement: I would want my money back and also compensated for the damages done after their work.....

Review: After getting an estimate to stop leak @ front foyer, on 12/30/2014, contract was signed and paid in full & "work done" on Feb.11, 2015. Thereafter, area still leaked because contracted work was NOT done to specs. Again someone came to estimate what needed to be done. Finally, months later, another payment was required and paid for leak to be corrected on July 23, 2015. Now with more recent rain, the same area is STILL leaking. Someone from Clark Builders came by 2-3 days ago, to literally look into the leaking ceiling area, and now they want another couple thousand dollars to "FIX" what was supposed to be done in January! With the thousands of $$$ paid already, a new roof could have probably been done in the whole area!Desired Settlement: With all the estimates given by the contractor to correct the leak and all the EXTRA monies paid to repair leak, time after time, I want this leaking area to be finally repaired, at NO additional cost to me. Their website claims "WE STOP LEAKS ... Our work is guaranteed. Our customers don't have to worry about sub par workmanship or tracking down unreliable contractors. "

Response:

Last month my father filed a complaint against Clark Builders on Broadway inClark NJ. The company has since, come to his home and did the job they wereoriginally supposed to do to fix a leaking roof. I have gone to your websiteto explain this "resolution", but could find nowhere for such a submission. Please advise. We were never given a confirmation from you regarding thiscomplaint, but the company called my father and ask that the complaint bewithdrawn. (though repair work has been done again, recently, to the roof,we are still waiting for a significant rain to determine that the problem istruly resolved)

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
