I am a repeat customer of Clark Carpentry & Remodeling. From hardwood and ceramic floor installation, to roofing and general repairs, I have been so pleased with the final results. Each project had an unexpected challenge which was overcome with the owner's good attention to detail and patience. Timing was adjusted to ensure the project was done correctly and for the long term. The results are beautiful, affordable, and speak for themselves.

My wife and I were replacing our patio door and called Joe for a bid to install the door we purchased at Menards. Joe responded the same, created a professional, and detailed quotation. There was custom carpentry to make the door fit and his work was of the highest quality. We will be using Joe again.

Review: In November 2014 we contracted [redacted] of Clark Carpentry & Remodeling) based on a recommendation from a coworker. The job we hired [redacted] to complete is a balcony deck. Our house has a walk out basement - so the balcony deck extends off our Kitchen on the main level. With 2 children (5 and 3 at the time) expected the job to be done quick as this is a safety risk.

11/13/14 - signed contract with [redacted] and gave him a check for half of the amount owed $3,250; that weekend we removed the old deck so [redacted] could come at the next opportunity to put the footings in.

Late November/December - no response from Joe

Winter came and went. We were frustrated he didn't break ground before the snow, but gave [redacted] the benefit of the doubt.

Then came Spring - we asked [redacted] to extend the deck an additional 2ft. Finally, signed final contract on 4/20/15 with drawing to extend additional 2ft. Told by the end of the month we would be sitting on our porch enjoying summer.

4/30 - diggers hotline coming on Monday

5/8 - [redacted] didn't pick up permit - had to wait until Monday for him to pick up

5/15 - poured 1 footing

5/18 - poured 2nd footing

5/19 - framing done and next payment milestone paid out

5/21 - out of town until next week Thur waiting on material delivery & rough inspection

6/2 - will let us know when materials being delivered

6/5 - mix up on our order will find out more next week

6/11 - hoping for material delivery in 2 weeks "out of my control, can't be back for 2 weeks" .. requested sit down (didn't happen)

6/12 - requested out of contract ... asked to have until Monday to decide

6/15 - 9:17pm texted "I'll touch base tomorrow"

6/16 - 8:44pm - called/texted ... no response

We are no longer given dates on when to expect the deck to be completed. Doesn't answer phone calls - in fact his voicemail box is full and no longer accepts voicemails.

If you use [redacted] or Clark Carpentry & Remodeling be warned that they are in NO hurry to get the job done. Very disappointing to go through this experience and we want others to be warned if they use Clark Carpentry & Remodeling what they might experience as based on the Revdex.com rating they are A+ with 1 very positive comment. Our experience has been the complete opposite.

We have 2 small kids and having a walk out balcony off our dining room/kitchen the kids if open the sliding door would fall thru the framing - major safety risk. 7 months into our contract with [redacted] and Clark Carpentry & Remodeling - can't imagine how much longer this "2 week project" will take.

I know by posting this "it won't benefit anyone" but am at a loss of what else to do in order to get out of the contract because at this point I'm not convinced 1. it will get done 2. it will be a quality job now that I have complained.Desired Settlement: I want our contract with Clark Carpentry & Remodeling voided. In addition, I want our money back for the materials / labor that haven't been completed. If proof can be obtained that materials were ordered from Where and When delivery will occur we will provide payment for composite decking. However, if proof cannot be obtained I want at least $3K back of the $5,875.

At this point we have lost the interest we could have earned on the $3,250 we paid [redacted] back in November 2014 (7 months ago!) $1300 for additional 2ft on 4/20 and the $1,325 on 5/19 for materials/labor that hasn't been addressed in the last month.

I want out of our contract because at this point, after filing this complaint, I don't think 1. it will get done 2. it will be a quality job now that I have complained.

Aside from the above, I also want others to be warned about our experience so hopefully they can avoid a similar experience.
