Classic Motor Car Company

Classic Motor Car Company listed a car on Hemmnings. I saw it and contacted the company the day it was listed, and spoke with the owner Chris on the phone shortly thereafter. We had a long conversation in which I asked for more photos of the vehicle and for a time which I could see the vehicle and test drive it.

In that conversation he said I could see it but not test drive it because the “roads were not good,” but that he would let me know when I could do a test drive. I expressed concern over the possibility of someone else wanting and buying the car. He then told me he would give me first shot at the purchase because of my interest, and that I was one of the first to call, and I was only 50 miles away. In the meantime I asked for, and he sent additional photos, and I asked why in the photos, the car was registered in Massachusetts but had Michigan plates. He responded the plates were just for photos. We went back and forth after that in email messages which in one he said the roads were worse than before and that the car was now in his buddy’s shop for minor repairs. He said “hopefully would have it back some time next week.” I had requested an update on the status because I was eager to see it/drive it/make a deal. Again, asked him to let me know as soon as I could check the car out. Four days later (one being a holiday) he sent me an email saying "sorry someone stopped into the repair shop” (a car dealer from Ohio…) and bought the car. Perhaps possible, but a car dealer from Ohio stopped into the repair shop and just had to have the car and bought it on the spot? This experience was very disturbing.

I bought a Buick from Rudy and had it shipped to Austin TX When I spoke to Rudy I said I'd hire an inspector to come look at the vehicle and he got pkly about exactly who would do the inspecting, claiming "I'm not gonna let (I forget his name) in my god damned shop blah blah blah" Now obviously it raised red flags but I know these old car guys are characters so fine I found someone he agreed to During our conversation he assured me that this car was a "daily driver" and the previous owner drove it every day and it was in perfect driving condition The inspection showed the car to indeed be relatively rust free, straight body etc I sent the funds and the car was shipped off to TX
When the car arrived and I took it out for a drive it had no brakes No Brakes Harrowing to say the least I called Rudy and he was livid and insisted the tow truck driver must have severed the line Fine He told me to contact them for reimbursement on the cost of repair Any need to tell you how that went? So, first day, and off to the shop for brake repair Great Rudy? Largely unconcerned, certainly never followed up Like I said, pkly So, drive for LITERALLY a few days, engine starts knocking and stalling out You have got to be kidding me Into the shopcracked piston Do you know how hard it is to find a piston for a 240CI 'nailhead? Options are limited, so begin the rebuild process of the "daily driver" Rudy sold me Dig into the car and all the original wiring is shot Of course it is, why wouldn't it be? Oh and the drum brakes were also shoton and on and on
So it's now two years later I've literally spend over 4x what I spent initially on the "daily driver" and it's FINALLY drive worthy So when I see his ads on Hemmings from time to time and wish I had further recourse than just Revdex.com to let people know to STAY AWAY from this guy and disregard ANY statement he makes regarding his vehicles
