Clay's Fencing Reviews (1)

This contractor was unprofessional, rude, did not respond to correspondence on major issues and took advantage of having a Home Depot recommendation.I had used the Home Depot installation request system when looking for a fence contractor. Home Dept had provided me only one listing and verbally advised that in my location, I would deal directly with the contractor; Clay's Fencing. I moved forward directly with this contractor who kept pushing my job back without notice. On rainy days he would claim rain and his company would take on other jobs on sunny days. The contractor then advised me Home Depot knew that he worked for the big companies so my job would be finished after any new big jobs were completed. This varied on for a few weeks before the job was finally completed (after I contacted Home Depot and complained). I inquired about payment options and was never given information. The day they finished, an installer, not the contractor, told me his boss told him to ask me for the check. Prior to the job being finished, I had spoke with the foreman on the job about removing some of the posts that were erroneously placed and was assured it would be done. As soon as the company got the check, they got in their trucks and left. I still have two fence posts installed in the ground by my neighbors yard. This was such a horrible experience as the communication with the contractor was so awful I couldn't even conversation with them anymore. I am active duty military and just moved to this location on orders. This is a company I would never recommend to anyone, let alone to fellow service members. I would actually specifically advise against this company. They may be great for big business companies but they do not care about the individual customer.Desired SettlementAfter the initial deadline of 19 December was missed by two weeks and the contractor would evade communication about the job. I would request a 75% refund. I was surprised they actually even finally finished the fence albeit with such lack of professionalism. Customers should n ow what they are getting into with this "Home Depot Recommended" company.Business Response To Whom it May Concern: In response to case number [redacted]. On December 16, 2015 Mr [redacted] was contacted by phone to let him know we were going to be at his residence to set the polls for his fence. He was not at home so we talked with him over the phone about where he wanted his posts set in relation to his neighbors fences. He decided he wanted to tie into is neighbors fence on the left of his house and follow his property line on the right side. Once the posts are set they are allowed a few days for the concrete to set. On December 20 Mr [redacted] called to say he just arrived in town and there was a problem with the location of the posts. We arranged a time with him to go back to his house and move the posts as per his request. After the posts were moved Mr [redacted] stated he was happy with how they were reset. During this time because of the holidays and very rainy weather we were having to delay finishing building his fence. We tried to go back to finish his fence on December 31 but it started pouring rain so we had to reschedule him. We told him we were not going to stand in the rain with power tools to build a fence. He was informed we would be back on the following Monday January 4, 2016. The entire fence was completed in one day. Upon completion of Mr [redacted]'s fence he was asked to walk around the entire fence to ensure it was completed to his satisfaction before requesting payment in full. Mr. [redacted] stated he was fully satisfied and offered full payment without hesitation in the form of a check. Before we left the job site Mr [redacted] asked to keep 2 of the left over posts that were still set in the ground. We agreed if he was willing to remove them he could keep them. Mr [redacted] has also contacted Home Depot requesting 75 percent of his money back. It was discussed with Mr. [redacted] over the phone what his payment options are. We accept cash or checks only. We also do not offer a military dicounts.Consumer Response This contractor is providing false information as even the plot diagram I provided never had any intentionOf tying into the neighbors fence. The guidelines were provided for my HOA that states fences must be 3 feet apart to allow mowing access. I told the contractor from day one that I did not want to tie into the fence and I would not be physically present. Clays fencing also never replied to my emails about form of payment. I did ask about the two fence posts but was strictly told I could not because they were not allowed to leave them. The gentleman in the camouflage jacket told me they would use a suction device to pull it out. I am happy to provide all email correspondence including Acces to my account to display what communication could occur. This is an example of how sketchy this business is and why I would never recommend them. The clays fencing gentleman himself told me that my job got pushed back because he couldn't say no to the big businesses that wrote his regular checks. The statements they made above are not true are email correspondence will directly negate some of their "responses".
