Inverter failed
Unbeknownst to me until I got a bill from Edison did I know I was generating 0 net energy for the past 3 months ( the hottest).
Tried repeatedly to call, text to get help but was told it was the solar panels problem. Whattt? So much for their 24/7 monitoring! Still waiting for a response. I paid them and they need to fix this and I expect compensation for breach of contract.

Where do I start? My 90 year old Grandparents had a Solar Unit and whole house fan installed. The work and product that clean initiative installed and performed are top notch! Everything is working perfect. My Grandparents run their A/C all the time and their bill stays about the same. I am more writing this review because of the excellent customer service we got from *** G. Without using his last name or position in the company this dude went way further than above and beyond. Due to my Grandparents advanced age they are not technically savvy. E-mails, signing docs online, and basically anything on the internet is very confusing to them. There was an issue that needed to be taken care of which was nobodies fault and *** did just that. After a few calls he got back to me and set an appointment IN PERSON (unheard of) to resolve the issue. It took a couple months which was to be expected. But *** was there every step of the way. He called with updates every week. Sometimes 2 or 3 times in a week just to let us know he was on top of things. Ive never been treated with such respect and thoughtfulness from a business. He made us feel like he really cared and it came through in his work ethic. If anyone is looking for a great product with a fair and honest company. Look no further. I cant say enough about how impressed we were with ***. He did what he said, and said what he did. Clean initiative really has an irreplaceable asset with you ***. Thank you so much for all your hard work!! You said you'd make things right and you came through, and then some!!! I will be recommending Clean Initiative to anyone who is looking for Solar. Thanks again x100!!!

They have a high pressure sales practice that ends with them telling you the project has to finish because they spent money, even if you had concerns
A door to door sales person came by and said we could save money with solar, so an in person visit was scheduled for Saturday May 18th to review options. *** came to our house, and on this day, although I was present, supposedly we couldn't review any proposals because both my wife and I needed to be present, so another visit was scheduled for Monday the 20th at 7pm. *** was polite, but and during this visit we reviewed a few options to save money, such as solar panels, LED lights, and a whole house fan. I'm not sure if *** knew what she was selling or if that was an act. For instance, a whole house fan, which I think costs about *** is most useful when it is cooler outside than inside, something not explained to us. Instead, it was described as something that would make us able to turn our A/C on less, which may be true on some days, but on other days it just creates a loss of insulation. We were told if we signed an agreement our house would be evaluated for solar panels and that we had a three day right to rescind period. This visit was two hours, but looking back it wasn't a helpful time, just a sales push for an agreement. Our house was evaluated later, and passed, but within the period we had misgivings about if now was the time to take out a loan for solar panels, and asked to extend the rescind period two weeks. We were now talking with someone named ***, who described himself as ***'s manager. He approved the two week extension. Within the two week period I texted *** and said we didn't wan't to do solar right now. I had received quotes from other companies for similar solar projects, and the agreement was similar, but we didn't feel good about taking out a loan, especially since the monthly loan amount was higher than our energy bills sometime and we'd like to better insulate our attic first to see if it cuts down on our A/C needs. On June 8th I got a call from someone I later fund called himself Pete Plass. He said in a voice mail the system was ready to install, that he had received my request to cancel and wanted to talk about it. I called him and he asked why we wanted to cancel, I told him I didn't feel comfortable taking out a loan, and he said he could switch it to another finance company that would look like a service agreement and not a loan. I wasn't familiar with this financial production and wasn't sure exactly what that would look like (was it a solar lease instead?) but didn't want to find out at this time and told him no thanks. At this point he said they'd spent money on the project and that we couldn't back out. I explained that they shouldn't have spent money because per *** we were in the right to rescind period, and that I had texts of my conversations with *** and that we didn't want to go solar right now. He said that wasn't going to work and so I hung up the phone because I didn't feel like he was listening. I immediately sent him a screenshot of my texts with *** and He called back within ten minutes and left a message that he'd call me Monday to work on a resolution. I texted *** and asked him to clear it up with Pete. He told me to talk to *** I texted *** and *** on group text at 3:35, expressed I felt there had been a miscommunication, and asked *** to clear it up in the next half hour or I would write negative reviews and contact the Revdex.com. I sent a follow up text at 3:46 to see if there was an update, but received no response. I looked up clean initiative online and called to talk to a manager, but only left a message. The agreement we signed was actually with Dividend Solar, so I looked them up. Someone answered so I asked if they had our application. They said they did, so I asked for it to be cancelled. The agent asked why, I asked if he was trying to sell me and he said he might contact their quality department. I explained it, he said he'd cancel, but the installer might have bought materials. I said they could use them elsewhere.

Desired Outcome

I'd like clean initiative and dividend solar to never call me again, text me, send mail, or invoices or bills.

Hi Mr ***, thank you for informing us of your concerns. It sounds like you have some misunderstanding of how these programs work and what indeed you signed up for. It is very rare we have homeowners that are not excited to make their home more energy efficient after they have already signed up as it clearly make sense for their living situation. We have attempted to contact you and have left multiple messages to help resolve what your questions are but have not been able to reach you. If you changed your mind about moving forward that is unfortunate but we are willing to help you cancel the program and absorb the occurred costs at this point. We need your cooperation in order to properly cancel it as there is a process and form that has to be submitted or it will remain active. Please call us as soon as possible as our intention is not to high pressure anyone in to do anything. Thank you and kind regards,

***, CEO and Founder

Customer Response • Jun 17, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This response confirms my complaint and seems like an additional high pressure sales tactic, even when Revdex.com is involved. It seems to me like Clean Initiative doesn't understand the affect of their customer service, how "rescind period" is interpreted by potential customers, or how to start a cancellation process with potential customers who change their minds. Also, it seems brash to say a specific home improvement makes sense for a homeowner. Purchasing a solar system requires a loan, which has an unique affect on credit and taxes, and assumes Utilities reimburse at a certain rate for 20 years. Additionally, renting a system is another option, but could be viewed as replacing one bill with another. A home improvement is a complicated and unique decision.

On June 5th I texted *** and notified him we weren't interested in solar. That was the time for Clean Initiative to cancel the program. Instead, *** called me and told me I couldn't cancel. I've been clear to Clean Initiative throughout the process that I had questions and was researching options, like better insulating our attic space so we use less AC in the summer, since summer months are more than 3 times our other utility bills. What money was spent by Clean Initiative other than regular sales costs? If raw materials, I would imagine they could be used on another project. The power company hasn't been out to inspect our meter so I doubt permits were filed for, but if so that seems like poor project management as there is a right to rescind period. I don't want to spend additional time discussing my questions with Clean Initiative. Please cancel the program, nothing else should be needed.

It was very pleased with the overall installation of the solar panels.
Everyone I interacted with was very professional and accommodating.
It has been a very positive experience.

I was happy to discuss my options with Gary Petersen with Clean Initiative. He is a stellar guy and very smart. You should be proud of him. He was through and help me explore the possibilities for and alternative on my electricity bill. You should be honored to have this man working for you.. I cant say enough about this wonderful man unless I have already done so.,

Very truly yours:

I have reason to the contract could be considered void since a date was not listed on the 3 day cancellation notice.
I contacted clean initiative about arranging an at home visit to discuss the program at length and determine if it was right for us. Initially when we signed we were lead to believe we had 7 days to change our mind about the contract. We asked multiple times if by signing it if we had 7 days to cancel, if by signing it were we buying anything. We were told yes we had 7 days and no that we wouldn't be buying anything. This visit occurred on March 9th. By March 13th they examined our roof and by March 14th we had learned through our landscaper a cheaper method of obtaining &installing the panels. I called to cancel and was told I had just missed my window to cancel. I brought up about how we were led to believe we had 7 days to cancel but apparently that is for another program. The one we would be under would have 3 days to decide to cancel. I brought up how when I read the cancelation notice in the contract it doesnt have a date listed on the line. They claim they still cannot cancel and that because the project is funded by Divined(sp?) Clean Iniatice cannot cancel.

I believe that because a date is not listed on the line WITHIN the written contract this should be considered void. I have nothing against Clean Initiative. They have been very polite and professional, and I am impressed with their reviews. But I feel there was a misunderstanding at the contract signing and that this document could be legally void since the date is not listed on the line.

I assumed the contract would not go into effect until after the roof assessment and the only reason why I didn't contact them Wednesday was because I had to keep my phone free for use/of distraction while I waited for SoCal gas to visit my property to "turn on" my gas after the earthquake valve was bumped (during the roof inspection, which we believe is when it occurred based on the foot prints the SoCal employee pointed out).

Desired Outcome

To cancel the contract.

Hi ***,

Thank you for taking my call yesterday. We show this project as cancelled in our system and we apologize for any confusion. We take our customer experience very seriously and will make sure we do what we can to make everything right. We are glad you are satisfied with the outcome and hope you will consider us in the future.

Excellent company to work with. They explained everything to us and answered all of our questions throughout the process. Any concerns we had were dealt with quickly. We now have solar with no out of pocket expense.

Excellent Company to do business with. Everything was completed ahead of schedule even with the rains we had in Jan 2019. Everything they predicted was completed satisfactorily and our city inspector said it was one of the cleanest and nicest installation he had ever seen.

Very professional company! This was very easy to do. We now have solar and we didn't have to pay anything out of our pocket. All of our questions were answered. There was no pressure. Now we get to save money on our electricity. Yea!

Had Clean Initiative Program Facilitator (employee) meet with me at my home. Employee very nice. But, company practices very invasive. After it was determined that I might be eligible for one of their programs, but before they sent someone to do a site visit to determine whether what I was being offered could actually be done, several things concerned me. First, because the program would be at "no cost" to me they had to do a credit check. Why? If I am not paying why do they need my credit score? Second, to complete the application they asked for them to log onto my Outlook email account so the request looked like it was coming from me. The application was going to a company named Sunnova. Third, the guy used his ipad and he did not have me login for him, instead he asked me for my password *** he could login. Without thinking I stupidly gave it to him. I could not see his ipad screen so he could have "saved" my password *** his ipad. Also, he needed my social security number. I did not give it to him. At this point I did not feel right and ended the meeting. When he left I changed my Outlook password. This company was just accredited this past September 14, 2018. New company, no history to speak of, poor customer practices. Clean Initiative may be a good company, but I did not like them asking for private information, especially before they even knew if they could really help me..

Hi Hector, we are sorry you had a negative experience with our company. Clean Initiative works with several different programs that help homeowners save money on their utility bills and make their homes more energy efficient. Some of the programs do not require the homeowner to purchase anything or take out a loan. The solar program that you attempted to apply for gives a solar system to an eligible homeowner at no cost, all they pay for is the power the system produces at a much lower rate than they pay the utility provider. The program is not going to give the system to just anyone, they will only give it to what they would consider "low risk" consumers that will actually pay their bill, this is the reason they must do a credit check. We have no interest in your SSN or your email information, our interest is simply to help you apply for these programs and proceed with being the contractor that completes the project. We have attempted several times to contact you and resolve this matter, but we have not gotten a response. Uninformed reviews such is this really hurts our company as does our industry which is helping countless of people save money, live in more comfortable homes, and reducing the carbon footprint. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make you feel better about the situation.
