Cleveland Public Power Reviews (27)

I reviewed Ms [redacted] account and found she started service with CPP 10/23/and has been billed monthly on timeThe lowest full month consumption is 1190kwh for $for November -December the highest was 1743kwh for $for January - February, the account has not been charged late feesMs [redacted] is mistakenly identifying the charge categories and assuming the Energy Adjustment Charge as a penalty feeThe three charges descriptions: Residential Electric - cost relating to the maintenance of service: wires, equipment, buildings etc ORC Tax - Ohio State Tax Energy Adjustment Charge - costs relating to purchasing the energy.I called to explain the bill, her telephone is disconnected

The disconnection of service for non payment is the lest effective and most disruptive method to collect revenue. The customer must adjust their life without electricityThe company has to dedicate people, trucks and equipment to disconnect the service then, dedicate the same
resources to reconnect once the payment is madeCPP commits to restore service within business hours, I apologize that in your case we did not.MsB***'s call on Wednesday evening was answered by our Trouble Department. They are dedicated to answer emergency calls like downed wires, equipment malfunction, line maintance and outage response. Chris who answered the phone is our emergency dispatch technician who directed MsB*** to contact Customer Service during business hoursMsB***'s concern was a serious imposition to her and her family but her concerns of reconnection from non-payment are addressed 7:30a - 5:30p by Customer Care and the Meter Service Center.I called MsB*** to address her concern before writing this response but was unable to reach her. We regret CPP did not provide the service level expected and was unable to restore service within the timeframe provided

I called Mr*** and confirmed his issue is addressed to his satisfactionHe stated Deputy Commissioner Perry listened to his concerns, reviewed his credit history with CPP and explained CPP deposit requirementsMr*** stated he intended to cancel this
complaint

CPP received the *** payment notification November 9, with the power restored November 13, 2017. The reconnection of service takes up to business hours during periods, it can take longer with higher demand or adverse weather. The least desired and most
costly method of collections is the disconnection of serviceWe are aware of the discomfort it causes the customer and try to show empathy during their distressWe will strive to improve our customer service and thank you for your comment

The Energy Adjustment Charge (EAC) is the monthly charge for CPP’s cost of purchasing electricity and transmitting it across the grid to the CPP system. It is associated with power production, purchase power cost and  transmission and capacity charges.  The transmission...

charge is the amount charged for moving power over the grid from the generator to the CPP system. The Capacity charge is determined by the system peak usage compared to the normal day-to-day system usage, and it is charged by the Regional Transmission Authority (PJM). All of these charges are combined to produce the monthly EAC.  The EAC is calculated each month as a rate and appears on your bill. Your kilowatt hours used is multiplied by that months rate is your cost for that month.

Good afternoon, all residential customers received the three charges detailed in my  response.
