Cleveland Public Power Reviews (%countItem)

Outages on a regular basis. We lost power three times since March. Always an excuse. More outages in the last two years than I have had in the previous 24 yrs. up until two years ago I only remember one outage prior to 2018.

I have written to CPP numerous times requesting to cancel my electric service with them so I can choose a different company. I have had so many issues with CPP (constant outages, billing charges, etc.). I have sent four separate emails to CPP with no response. I have telephoned CPP and was put on hold for hours. On one call somebody finally answered and then hung up immediately. On another call I got an answering machine I left a message with my telephone number account number etc. with no reply.

I moved out of Ohio on 1/10/20. I called Cleveland Public Power on 1/10/20 to request a disconnect on my electric at my old apartment. They scheduled the disconnect for 1/14/20. They never disconnected my service and continue to bill me. I have called once a week since mid January to follow up and they keep saying they dont know why they didnt disconnect but they will take care of it. Nothing ever happens. Now I am getting delinquent letters in the mail and as of this morning I was just billed for another month of service. I am fearful that due to their inability to follow through with disconnecting my service they will end up sending me to collections or something for services I should not be billed for. I do not know where else to turn to escalate this and get them to fix it.

Our records indicate you contacted CPP January 10, 2020 to end service, we provided the end date of January 14, 2020. The meter remained on and continued to bill through February 21, 2020 accumulating charges to $221.27. We have adjusted your bill to end your service as of January 14, 2020 reading. You will receive a final bill of $96.63 in the mail for service until January 14, 2020.

We apologize for the delay in processing your final bill.

I paid a bill with them in full, buy 8am. At 2pm my son calls and say the power is off, so I called cop to see what the issue was, they say my power is off due to none payment , I told them my bill was paid early this morning and provided the reference number. They they say it gone take 2 business days for them to come back out when they shouldn't have turned it off anyway. Mind you it's a blizzard outside and now me and my family have to freeze from there mistake. If I needed to call after I paid my bill thru their payment system, they should have made that clear. Then the manager had a nasty attitude on top of that saying so what do I want him to do. I wish I never had to use Cleveland public power.

I reached out to Ms. to listen to her concern. I reviewed the CPP website and did not find specific language concerning making a payment on a delinquent account. A request is submitted to add a warning to contact CPP if the account balance is over 30 days old to prevent disconnection of service. CPP restoration is two business days, the service was restored the next business day.

Every month, since moving into my new apartment building, I have been billed an enormous amount for my Energy Adjustment Charge with Cleveland Public Power. For example, for 12/12/2019, my electricity charge wintered $35.83. Then my Energy Adjustment Charge was $42.70. Now for 02/14/2020, my Electricity Charge Winter is $47.55. My Energy Adjustment Charge is $56.67. How are they allowed to charge me more for the Energy Adjustment Charge that's more than my actual usage? I'm on a fixed income and there's no way I will be able to afford this. Is this even legal?

Cleveland Public Power Response • Mar 09, 2020

The three charges on Cleveland Public Power residential bill details your costs for energy services. The Energy Adjustment (EAC) are the costs of purchasing and distributing electricity to CPP Substations. The customers are charged the EAC based on the amount of electricity they use measured in Kilo-Watt-Hours (KWH). The KHW consumption is also used to calculate the Residential Electric Charge and Ohio Revised Code Tax. All charges are approved and valid.

I moved and tried to get electricity turned on. They refused profusely. Its winter and I'm freezing.

contacted CPP July 23, 2019 to place service in her name at ***. CPP request she provides a lease to support her start date, Ms. did not provide the supporting documentation. The power was disconnected for non-pay September 5, 2019 for $991.07 delinquency in her room mates *** name. Both Ms. and Mr. have contacted CPP for power and were given pay plan of $500 to restore power and three month arrangement for the balance. They were also given E-HEAP number to apply for assistance.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I moved here a month ago and Cleveland public power asked for specific paperwork to prove where I lived for 6 months for some reason. I submitted all the paperwork and still do not have electricity. Am I supposed to sue in order to get the basic needs to survive in the middle of winter! I'm freezing!!

I want electricity turned on today!

Cleveland Public Power along with the City of Cleveland installed new LED street lights last summer/fall 2019. They are extremely bright and shine into our house even though we have darkening curtains. The light shines into our backyard and it's a huge nuisance. It's like being in a football field with the lights. The issue is that I've contacted Cleveland Public Power several times since last year and nothing is being done about it. I contacted Mr., Manager of Street Lighting Department and he never responded to me. I've been calling the local councilman's office and Cleveland Public Power and no one is listening or responding to me.

I got a call from ***, the supervisor and he's going to address the issue. I'd like to cancel this complaint. Thank you.

Customer Response • Feb 18, 2020

Can I reopen this case because it's been over two weeks and they still have not fixed the street light. Do I have to start a whole new complaint? Ok, thank you.

The consumer moved into this apartment in April 2019 and the bill was $30.The consumer had never had CPP prior to moving to this apartment The bill has continued to increase since then. The consumer received there bill for this month and it stated that the consumer owes $1,274.43.The consumer has never missed a payment for this bill. The consumer did contact the company directly about why the bill was so high. They stated that it was at least three other residents that were under the consumers name. The consumer stated they never lived at any of these other homes and that this had to be fraud of some kind. The company stated that the consumer needed "Do what they(the consumer) had to do" to pay the bill. The consumer did ask them to investigate this matter. The company stated the consumer needed to pay at least half of the bill. The consumer would like this to resolved.

My review of your account found $865.45 was accumulated in your name from ***. The account began January 8, 2003 and ended June 15, 2006, that balance was transferred to you current account at *** where the balance was$187.92 with current charges of $206.39. The total balance is $1259.76.

CPP can relieve you of the transferred $865.45 bad debt leaving the balance of $364.31. That balance needs to be paid to prevent disconnection of service.

company, they will work a monthly payment plan with you through pipp/heap if you fall behind and they rarely have outages, they are the best option PERIODTTTTT...Cleveland public power is a headache Ive been staying in *** in this unit for 5 months since June and we’ve had at least 4 outages since I been here...mind you my house is all electric so when the lights go out, there’s no heat and having 3 schoolage children, being pregnant and working from home this is HORRIBLE...if I knew this in advance I would’ve never moved in this neighborhood and it seems as if it’s always my street when I ride around the neighborhood...all I know is IF the people had a right to pick and choose CLEVELAND PUBLIC POWER WOULDVE BEEN OUT OF BUSINESS LONG AGO...looking into alternatives for my family until we move and we will as soon as the lease up

I moved from my apartment back in May, I realized the new renter and the landlord did not switch the account in June. I contacted CPP and they told me that I needed to pay that month (of June) but that they would cancel my account and I would not get billed further. July I got an email that I was going to be charged for that month, I contacted my person from before and they said it was just a glitch in the system and not to worry. But they billed me anyways, and they are trying to bill me again. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any kind of company. I have finally found, after hours of clicking on everything on the screen, how to deactivate my account online without going through one of the people that has lied to me previously. By the way, you cannot deactivate your account once you have logged in, which is the problem. No you have to log out, and then you will see an option to deactivate your account...super logical right. I asked their 'help' system multiple times, but did not hit the right phrasing until almost 3 months later.

My electric got disconnected I have been paying my bill but not the full balance they didn’t call me to tell me that my electric is getting disconnected they just disconnected it and I have severe arthritis fibromyalgia and asthma too and I borrowed the money to get it turned back on and they told me it will be 24 to 48 hours and it’s in the 90s

No one answers the phone at this company and they have not even tried to contact me after submitting a move in service from and again contacting them days later for an update.

No one at this company answers calls. I waited on hold for an hour just to have it answered then hung up on. This company has terrible customer service!

This is what happens when you have a service monopoly. I was charged $1100 due my tenant not taking the power out of my name. I've been on hold all day and cannot get a hold of a supervisor. I left multiple messages for Bill *** and he will not get back to me. I called City Council and complained.

Cleveland Public Power has deteriorated significantly over the last 2 years. We have and continue to have multiple Power outages in my neighborhood and around Cleveland. It is poor workmanship and service. Customer Service is rude and basically non responsive. This is not how it use to be, CPP was responsive and the workers were respectful. Unfortunately that has changed.

My service was disconnected without a shut off notice. Paid the bill in full Thursday as of Friday9/14/18 no Service. My food will be bad soon.I hate we have to deal with this company. They suck I wish the landlord would switch company's.
